IMMACULATA, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball fell behind in game one but rallied to sweep Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon behind a record-setting day from senior Angelina Bresnen.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 8 – Immaculata 4
Laila Murray and Haley Kley were the lone baserunners for the Aggies through the first three innings. In the second, the Mighty Macs struck first with runners on the corners as Valdez singled to right to score Kuester. Two batters later, Formica added an infield single to plate another run and give Immaculata a 2-0 lead.
With two on and one out in the third, Tessa Fredericks induced a pair of groundouts to escape the inning.
Immaculata doubled its lead in the fourth when Andrada hit a two-run double to make it 4-0.
In the fifth, Delaware Valley's everyday starters entered the game and made an immediate impact. Madison Donnelly doubled before Kenzie Boyd was hit by a pitch, setting up Bresnen for a three-run homer to left center that cut the deficit to 4-3. The Aggies stranded two runners, ending the threat.
DelVal took control in the sixth. Amelia Funston singled to center and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Jillian Collins singled. Donnelly then drove in Funston with a single to center. Boyd followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Collins, and Bresnen delivered again with a two-run double to left that plated Boyd and Donnelly, giving the Aggies a 7-4 lead.
The scoring wrapped up in the seventh when, with runners on the corners, Tori Bockrath reached on an error that allowed Funston to score for the 8-4 final.
Fredericks started in the circle, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing four runs. Madison Karns earned her eighth win of the season with 3.0 shutout innings in relief.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 11 – Immaculata 2 (5 inn.)
Bresnen wasted no time making history in game two, blasting a leadoff home run to break the program's single-season home run record. After a hit batter, Donnelly advanced to third on a Fredericks double before scoring on an error by the shortstop to put the Aggies ahead 3-0.
Gemma Taggart got the start in the circle and retired the side in order in the second inning.
In the fourth, Bockrath doubled to right center and moved to third on a catcher's error. Boyd then lifted a sacrifice fly to score Bockrath and extend the lead to 4-0.
Delaware Valley exploded in the fifth. With Collins aboard, Donnelly launched her first home run of the season to center field. The Aggies later loaded the bases for Boyd, who tripled to right to make it 9-0. Bresnen then capped the inning with her third homer of the day, a two-run blast that broke the Delaware Valley single-season RBI record. She now has 39 RBIs after tying the previous mark of 37 last season.
Taggart allowed two runs in the bottom of the fifth but secured her second win of the season, tossing all five innings with two strikeouts.
With the victory, Delaware Valley improves to 21-7 overall and will host PSU-Brandywine on Thursday, April 16, in Doylestown.
