DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley swept Albright on Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by Tessa Fredericks' first career home run and a 10-strikeout performance from Morgan Mecham.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 4 – Albright 0
Jillian Collins opened the game with an infield single before Kenzie Boyd followed with a hit to left field. Angelina Bresnen then doubled up the middle to score both runners. Bresnen later came home on a wild pitch to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead.
Both teams stranded two runners in the second inning before Madison Karns forced three groundouts for a 1-2-3 third.
The Aggies loaded the bases in the fourth with singles by Amelia Funston and Karns before Collins reached on an error. Boyd reached on a fielder's choice that saw pinch runner Taylor Mazzoni thrown out at home, and Bresnen and Madison Donnelly each popped out to leave the bases loaded.
In the fifth, Fredericks reached base and with two outs Funston singled up the middle. Fredericks came home when Karns drove a single through the middle to extend the lead to 4-0.
Karns closed the game with a 1-2-3 seventh inning to earn her fifth win of the season. She struck out two and recorded 15 groundouts in 7.0 innings.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 9 – Albright 2
Morgan Mecham sat the Lions down in order to start game two. Bresnen and Donnelly both singled to put runners on the corners before Fredericks blasted her first career home run to give DelVal a 3-0 lead.
The Aggies added two more runs in the second. With Laila Murray and Funston on base, Jillian Ulozas reached on a fielder's choice that allowed everyone to remain safe. Boyd then singled up the middle to drive in Funston and extend the lead to 5-0.
Mecham struck out the side in the third and finished the game with 10 strikeouts.
Albright plated two runs in the sixth after doubles from Fisher and Landante, but the Aggies responded quickly. Bresnen homered to right field to score Boyd, who had singled earlier in the inning. With Fredericks and Donnelly aboard, Murray doubled to center to drive in both runners and push the lead to 9-2.
Mecham improved to 7-0 with the win as the Aggies moved to 15-3 overall. Delaware Valley returns to action on Thursday, April 2, hosting Muhlenberg at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
