Softball Blanks PSU-Scranton and PSU-Altoona to Close Trip

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – Delaware Valley softball shut out both PSU-Scranton and PSU-Altoona on the final day of its spring break trip, improving to 7-1 on the season.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 8 – PSU-Scranton 0 (5 innings)

Kenzie Boyd walked to begin the game and eventually came around to score on a series of passed balls and wild pitches. Angelina Bresnen followed a similar path, scoring shortly after before Madison Donnelly doubled to left field to drive her in and give the Aggies a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

In the second, Scranton put runners on first and second, but Jillian Ulozas turned a double play to end the threat.

Bresnen reached on an error to start the third and, after two outs, was driven in by Tori Bockrath on a single up the middle. With Bockrath and Amelia Funston on base, Laila Murray singled to right-center, bringing both runners home to extend the lead to 5-0.

Donnelly opened the fifth with an infield single before Tessa Fredericks drove her in with a triple. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Madison Karns ripped a double to right-center to score Bockrath, and Murray came home on a wild pitch to secure the 8-0 run-rule victory.

Karns earned the win in the circle, tossing 4.0 innings before Morgan Mecham closed out the final frame with a groundout and two strikeouts.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 2 – PSU-Altoona 0

Altoona threatened early with runners on second and third, but with two outs Ulozas made a diving grab at third base to end the inning.

Neither team broke through until the fifth when the Aggies got on the board. Amelia Funston doubled and later scored when Murray reached on a throwing error by the shortstop to make it 1-0.

After two quick outs in the sixth, Donnelly and Fredericks hit back-to-back singles before Bockrath lined a single up the middle to drive in Donnelly and extend the lead to 2-0.

Murray reached on an error to begin the seventh and three additional Aggies reached on fielder's choices, but DelVal was unable to add another run. Mecham controlled the circle for all 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five to earn her second win of the season.

Next up, the Aggies begin conference action against Misericordia on Sunday, March 15 in Dallas, Pa.
