LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – Delaware Valley softball picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday, highlighted by senior Kenzie Boyd recording her 100th career hit.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 6 – Albion 5
Tori Bockrath got things started in the second inning with an infield single, followed by Amelia Finston reaching through the left side. Madison Karns then loaded the bases, and Laila Murray reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Bockrath to score and give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth, Albion put runners on second and third, but Karns forced a groundout and a lineout to stop the threat. Madison Donnelly doubled down the left field line to move Boyd to third. Boyd then scored on a Bockrath double, before Donnelly came home on a wild pitch. With Bockrath on third, Tessa Fredericks poked a single through the left side to score Bockrath and push the lead to 4-0.
Albion answered in the sixth, putting runners on with an error, a hit-by-pitch, and a single before Ruselink tripled to center. The Britons tied the game when Cole reached on another Aggies error to make it 4-4. In the bottom of the frame, Karns walked before Murray and Jillian Collins followed with walks to load the bases. Boyd grounded out to score pinch runner Sienna Cali, and with two outs, Donnelly reached on an error that brought Murray home to give DelVal a two-run advantage.
Fredericks took over for Karns in the seventh but quickly allowed a walk and a single. Henderson laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners before McDonald hit an infield single that scored Vallone. Leading 6-5, Fredericks forced a lineout and a pop-up to secure the win, her second of the season.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 17 – Valley Forge 3 (5 innings)
Valley Forge struck first after Ragotzy doubled and was driven in by Wakeman, who singled to left.
In the bottom of the inning, Collins reached on an error, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch. Boyd walked and Collins scored during Boyd's attempt to steal second. From there, the Aggies erupted for 13 runs in the inning. Murray, Fredericks, and Angelina Bresnen each recorded RBIs, while several other runs scored off Valley Forge errors.
After Fredericks struck out three swinging in the second inning, DelVal added four more runs in the bottom half. Sienna Cali singled up the middle to score Sarah Land and Lydia Borger. Haley Kley and Samantha Ratti later walked with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 17-1.
Gemma Taggart entered in the circle and the Patriots loaded the bases. Harris reached on a fielder's choice to score an unearned run before Taggart struck out Rodriguez swinging.
In the fifth, Rodriguez singled through the right side with the bases loaded, bringing home another unearned run due to an earlier Aggies error. Taggart then induced Wood to line into a double play to end the game after five innings and earn her first career win.
Following Tuesday's sweep, the Aggies improve to 5-1 on the season. DelVal will wrap up its spring break trip tomorrow with games against PSU-Scranton and PSU-Altoona.
