DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley men's basketball fell in double overtime to FDU-Florham, 94–90, on Wednesday afternoon at home.
After a pair of missed three-pointers to open the game, Jeremiah Lee finished a layup one minute in and sparked a 7–0 run as the Aggies held the Devils scoreless early. Kamal Johnson later added a steal and score to maintain a 14–9 advantage with 11:09 remaining in the first half. FDU trimmed the deficit to two, but Ryan Everett buried a three before Jake McGinty's steal led to a MarQuel Fitzgerald layup. Antonio Redding stopped a Devils run, and JT Wright knocked down a three to keep DelVal in front, 26–21. The teams traded baskets down the stretch, and the Aggies carried a one-point lead into halftime.
The Devils tied the game early in the second half before taking their first lead at the free-throw line. McGinty answered with back-to-back three-pointers to regain the advantage, and the lead changed hands several times throughout the period. After a three from Johnson, FDU responded with two triples to go up five midway through the half. DelVal battled back behind free throws from Johnson and Lee, and Redding converted a three-point play following a block by Mike Herrin. The Devils answered with layups and another three to regain the lead. With two minutes remaining, Redding hit two free throws and followed with a jumper to put the Aggies ahead. However, an offensive rebound led to a tying basket by FDU, sending the game to overtime tied at 67.
In the first overtime, Redding and Denvir traded three-pointers before McGinty connected from deep. Lee added a tip-in to give DelVal a three-point edge, but Denvir answered with another three and completed a four-point play to put FDU ahead. Herrin split a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to force a second overtime.
FDU opened the second overtime with two quick layups before Lee converted a three-point play. Smith followed with a 5–0 run to give the Devils control. Redding knocked down two three-pointers, but FDU went 3-for-4 at the line late to secure the 94–90 victory.
With the loss, the Aggies fall to 8–12 overall and 2–7 in the MAC Freedom. DelVal returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7, hosting Arcadia at 3:00 p.m.
