DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley women's soccer earned a 1-1 draw against DeSales University on Tuesday afternoon, snapping a 13-game losing streak to the Bulldogs dating back to the Aggies' last win in 2011.
DeSales had the early chances, firing a shot wide before Hill hit the crossbar. Crampton then tested Dekota Barthold, who made her first stop of the afternoon. Barthold added two more saves 10 minutes into the match before Gianna Grassifulli sent a shot wide. In the 14th minute, Alexa DelGiudice found Marissa Rogers, who got close to the goal and chipped a shot into the top-right corner to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. The remainder of the half was closely contested, with the majority of play taking place in the DelVal defensive zone, but the Bulldogs were unable to create any meaningful chances.
Both sides traded fouls early in the second half before Mulroony put a shot on goal that Barthold stopped. The Bulldogs earned a corner off the save and scored on the ensuing set piece, with Crampton heading the ball into the net in the 53rd minute to tie the game. DeSales controlled much of the remainder of the match, forcing Barthold to make eight more saves for a total of 14 on the afternoon. Her performance proved to be a major reason the Aggies earned the draw. Addison Allain recorded DelVal's lone shot of the second half, putting a long-range attempt on goal in the 64th minute. The Bulldogs had the final chances in the closing five minutes, but shots from Mulroony and Crampton went wide as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
With the draw, the Aggies move to 3-5-1 overall and 0-0-1 in MAC Freedom play. DelVal will travel to Marywood on Saturday, October 10, to take on the Pacers in its first MAC Freedom meeting with Marywood.
