Davis Nets Historic Goal in Field Hockey’s Loss at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team fell 5-1 on the road at Lebanon Valley, but Isabella Davis provided a historic highlight by scoring the Aggies' first goal against the Flying Dutchmen since LVC joined the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) in 2023.

Lebanon Valley struck twice in the opening four minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. The Flying Dutchmen continued to pressure the Aggies' defense, but goalkeeper Gracyn Shutt made two saves during a three-shot stretch to keep the deficit at two. DelVal earned a penalty corner in the 12th minute, leading to Kylie Conley's shot, the Aggies' lone attempt of the opening quarter.

DelVal earned the first penalty corner of the second quarter but could not generate a shot. LVC earned two corners of its own, recording one shot, but the Aggies' defense kept the Flying Dutchmen off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half.

The Aggies continued to hold off LVC early in the third quarter, with Shutt making two saves and the defensive unit blocking another attempt. However, the Flying Dutchmen eventually found the back of the cage to extend their lead to 3-0. LVC added a fourth goal off a penalty corner in the 51st minute.

DelVal responded with increased offensive pressure, earning three penalty corners and taking two shots in the ensuing stretch. Maggie Fijal put a shot on goal in the 54th minute that was saved, but the Aggies maintained possession. Davis capitalized on the opportunity, scooping up the ball and finding the cage to put DelVal on the board and end LVC's shutout streak against the Aggies since joining the MAC Freedom. The Flying Dutchmen added one more goal before the final whistle to secure the 5-1 result.

Conley led DelVal with three shots, including two on goal, while Shutt played all 60 minutes in the cage and recorded five saves on 10 shots faced.

The Aggies return home on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to host DeSales at 7 p.m. on Robert A. Lipinski Field.
