WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team defeated host Wilkes in four sets before getting swept by John Jay to split the day.
MATCH ONE VS. WILKES (3-1)

Kai Logan recorded the kill to kickstart a 5-0 run for an Aggies' early lead, 7-3.
Madison Alexander set off another run putting together four unanswered points to generate a five-point lead, 14-9. Four-straight kills and a service ace from the duo of Alexander and
Monique Smith propelled the Aggies' lead to eight, 20-12. Wilkes attempted to answer back with a 4-1 run, but DelVal finished things out with kills from
Cassandra Gloster and
Ariana Hernandez to take the set, 25-18.
Wilkes jumped out to an early 5-1 start, but Smith began a 6-1 run for the Aggies to shift the lead. The teams tallied the score three more times before a 7-3 run from the Colonels created a four-point gap, 18-14. DelVal brought the deficit down to three twice before using a 5-0 run to come within a single point, but Wilkes secured the final score to take the set, 25-23.
The teams traded points to star the set tying up the score at nine apiece when the Aggies' offense gained momentum using a 9-4 run to create a five-point lead, 18-13. Wilkes brought the score back within two, but DelVal used a 6-1 spurt to finish the match victorious, 25-18.
Gloster, Smith and Logan kept the Aggies on top to start the fourth set with a two-point lead, 5-3. DelVal gave up a point before Hernandez used back-to-back kills to shift momentum and start a 6-1 run for a six-point lead, 11-5. The Colonels came back within two points twice, but DelVal stayed ahead with a 10-6 run to end the set, 25-19.
MATCH TWO VS. JOHN JAY (0-3)

An Alexander service ace and Smith kill put the Aggies on the board to start, but John Jay quickly responded with force taking a three-point lead three times. A pair of errors and kill from Gloster evened the game, 10-10. The teams tied it up twice more, but John Jay held the 12-3 advantage through the rest of the set for the win, 16-25.
John Jay built up a five-point advantage before the Aggies ever got on the board in set two. The Bulldogs defense held DelVal to just seven total points, one kill and one service ace in the set.
Logan started things off strong with the first kill of the set. The lead changed hands four times before John Jay mounted a 6-1 run to pull ahead by seven, 19-12. Two service aces from Smith and a kill from Hernandez helped the Aggies with a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to four, but the Bulldogs held the 5-3 edge to take the set, 19-25.
The Aggies are back in action this Tuesday, Sep. 9 at 7 p.m. at Penn State Brandywine.
