McKeegan and Hostetler Net Second-Half Goals in Loss at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team traveled to DeSales for the MAC Freedom conference opener and dropped the contest 16-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs shut out the Aggies in the first half, putting up seven goals in the first quarter and three in the second for a 10-0 lead. DelVal fired off 11 shots in the first 30 minutes placing three on goal. Emily Drake recorded three saves on 13 shots faced.

DeSales netted three more to start the second half before Viola Anderson collected the loose ground ball of the turnover to set up a successful clear and offensive play for the Aggies. Kyra McKeegan fired at the net getting past Nicole Minelli for the goal.

DelVal used that momentum headed into the final frame. Ashley Birmingham won the opening draw going down for a shot saved, giving possession back to the Bulldogs who committed a quick turnover scooped up by Birmingham. The ball found its way to McKeegan who set up Abbie Hostetler for the final goal of the game for the Aggies.

Alyssa Rudd led the team in ground balls collecting five while Birmingham led in draw controls with four. Drake made a total of nine saves on 25 shots faced in the game. With her two ground balls in the game, McKeegan reached a total of 100 career ground balls. With her second draw control in the game, Birmingham hit a career 200 draw controls.

DelVal returns to action this Wednesday, Apr. 9 when they host Misericordia for the first home conference contest of the season at 6 p.m.
