MADISON, NJ. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team wraps of their 2024-25 season with two losses at FDU-Florham. In game one, Esbenshade pitched a career-high eight strikeouts with only one walk, while Loewe followed with a career-high six strikeouts in game two.
GAME 1: DVU 1 – FDU 4
The Devils quickly took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after two strikeouts from starting pitcher
Connor Esbenshade. With a man on third, a Devil singled to right field scoring the run. Esbenshade ended the inning with his third strikeout of the inning. The Devils scored one more run in the bottom of the second inning after leading off with a hit-by-pitch.
Esbenshade kept the Devils scoreless in the bottom of the third after two more strikeouts . The Aggies cut the Devils' lead in half after scoring one in the top of the fourth inning.
Blake Ramos led-off with a single to left field and scored after a
Jared Ecenroad double to left center. In the bottom of the inning, M. Geist restored the Devils' two-run lead after homering to right field. The Devils scored once more in the bottom of the fifth inning off of two hits. They held the lead 4-1. Esbenshade pitched for 4.2 innings allowing four runs while striking out a season-high eight.
GAME 2: DVU 0 – FDU 5
Travis Loewe started on the mound for the Aggies and kept the game scoreless after the first inning after opening up the game with hitting a Devil batter. The Aggies attempted to take a lead in the top of the second after Ecenroad and
James Miskanic reached base, but they were left stranded by the defense. With two outs, the Devils took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning after three back-to-back singles.
Loewe kept the Devils at a 1-0 lead through the third and fourth inning. The Aggies looked to tie the top of the fourth inning with runners on second and third. The Devils' defense held on curbing their offense.
The Devils scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after a two-run home run from A. Santos.
Andrew Schneider started the top of the sixth inning with a double down the left field line. With bases loaded, the Devils made it out of the inning after a fielder's choice play. The Devils increased their lead in the bottom of the sixth after scoring two runs off of one hit. Loewe pitched 5.2 innings allowing five runs with a career-high six strikeouts and allowing one walk.
