Softball Sets New Win Mark with Sweep of Albright

READING, Pa. – The Delaware Valley softball team made history on Thursday afternoon, setting a new program record for single-season wins with a sweep of Albright College. The two victories gave the Aggies their 19th win of the season, surpassing the previous record of 18 wins set in 2008 and matched in 2024.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 10 – Albright 0 (6 innings)

DelVal wasted no time getting on the board. In the first inning, Sierra Ripka reached third base before Angelina Bresnen reached on an error that allowed Ripka to score, giving the Aggies an early 1-0 lead.

After Madison Karns retired the Lions in order in the bottom of the inning, DelVal added two more runs in the second. Tori Bockrath reached on an error, and Karns followed with a ground-rule double to right. Jillian Ulozas brought Bockrath home with a sacrifice fly, and Karns scored when Jillian Collins reached on another Albright miscue, extending the lead to 3-0.

In the third, Bresnen reached third and scored on a single up the middle by Madison Donnelly. Bockrath then doubled, and Karns grounded out to bring Donnelly home. Ulozas added an infield single to drive in Bockrath, making it 6-0.

DelVal sealed the win with a big sixth inning. With Collins and Ripka on base, Bresnen singled to third, scoring Collins. Then with the bases loaded and two outs, Bockrath singled to left to drive in two more. Karns capped the rally with an RBI single up the middle, bringing the score to 10-0.

Karns was dominant in the circle, allowing just four hits over 6.0 scoreless innings while throwing only 60 pitches.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 7 – Albright 0

The Aggies carried their momentum into game two. Ripka led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored again when Bresnen reached on an error. After Bresnen stole second and advanced on a passed ball, Donnelly grounded out to bring her in, putting DelVal up 2-0.

The score held until the fifth inning when Ripka reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and was moved to third by a Kenzie Boyd sacrifice bunt. Bresnen then doubled to third, bringing Ripka home to extend the lead to 3-0.

DelVal loaded the bases in the sixth but couldn't convert. They made up for it in the seventh. With Boyd and Bresnen on base, Emily Funston doubled to center to bring both home. Taylor Mazzoni pinch ran for Funston and scored on a Bockrath double to center — Bockrath's 100th career hit and RBI — sealing the 7-0 victory.

Karns closed out the day with a pair of lineouts, completing a 13.0-inning shutout over the doubleheader and earning her 12th and 13th wins of the season.

With the sweep, Delaware Valley improves to 19-14 overall and will wrap up MAC Freedom play on Saturday, April 26, at home against FDU-Florham for Senior Day.
