HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Delaware Valley softball team saw a pair of leads slip away on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader against Stevens.
Game 1 | Stevens 5 – Delaware Valley 4
After a quiet first inning, the Aggies struck first in the top of the second.
Tori Bockrath singled to right and advanced to second before
Madison Donnelly reached on a fielding error, allowing Bockrath to score and put DelVal up 1-0.
DelVal doubled its lead in the third.
Sierra Ripka reached on a bunt single and was moved over by a sacrifice from
Kenzie Boyd.
Amelia Funston came through with an RBI single to center to make it 2-0.
Stevens answered in the bottom half. With the bases loaded, a walk to Curtis brought home Kirstein, who had reached on a fielding error. The Ducks tied the game when Quattrochi reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Mitloff.
The Aggies reclaimed the lead in the fourth when
Madison Karns reached on a throwing error, and
Yasmine Gonzalez followed with an RBI double to left. The Ducks threatened again but left the bases loaded.
In the seventh, Ripka led off with an infield single and came around to score on Funston's RBI double to left center, giving DelVal a 4-2 cushion.
But Stevens rallied in the bottom half. Curtis walked and stole second, and Quattrochi reached on an error, putting runners on second and third. Prescott then delivered a two-run single to tie the game. After a second out, Kirstein singled and Lawrence followed with a walk-off single up the middle to complete the comeback, 5-4.
Game 2 | Stevens 9 – Delaware Valley 6
DelVal jumped ahead early in the nightcap. With two outs in the first, Funston and Donnelly singled before
Angelina Bresnen launched a three-run homer to left for a quick 3-0 lead.
The Ducks got two back in the second, but the Aggies responded in the third. Donnelly singled, and Bresnen crushed her second homer of the day to left, pushing the lead to 5-2.
DelVal added another in the fourth when Donnelly doubled to left center, scoring Ripka, who had reached on a single. That made it 6-2.
But Stevens erupted for six runs in the bottom half, capitalizing on five hits, including a bases-clearing double from Hsu to take an 8-6 lead. The Ducks added one more insurance run to seal the 9-6 win.
With four hits today, Funston crossed over the 100 career mark, and now has 39 on the season, good for the team lead.
With the two losses, Delaware Valley falls to 16-13 overall and 2-10 in the MAC Freedom. The Aggies return to action on Tuesday, April 22, when they host Immaculata.
