CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Tori Bockrath launched her third home run of the season in game two, but the Delaware Valley softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against DeSales University on Thursday evening.
Game 1 | DeSales 3 – Delaware Valley 1
DelVal looked to strike early in game one.
Sierra Ripka led off with a single through the left side but was caught stealing second.
Kenzie Boyd followed with a base hit down the left-field line, but the Aggies couldn't capitalize.
In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs threatened with runners on first and third.
Madison Karns worked out of the jam with a shallow flyout and a groundout to short.
The Aggies again applied pressure in the third.
Jillian Collins singled up the middle, and Ripka reached on an error to put runners on the corners with no outs. However, three consecutive outs left both stranded.
The Bulldogs finally broke the scoreless tie in the sixth. After a walk and an error put runners on the corners, a stolen base set up Hromin's RBI single up the middle. Kenny followed with a two-run homer to left, giving DeSales a 3–0 lead. Karns bounced back to strike out Guliandolo to end the frame.
DelVal made one last push in the seventh.
Amelia Funston singled down the right-field line, and
Kathleen McGeoy came in to pinch run. Karns dropped a bunt that loaded the bases after everyone was safe.
Yasmine Gonzalez advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Ripka reached on a fielder's choice to bring in McGeoy. That would be the lone run for the Aggies, falling 3–1.
Game 2 | DeSales 12 – Delaware Valley 2
Game two saw DeSales take advantage of early miscues. After the Aggies stranded two in the top of the first, the Bulldogs plated three unearned runs in the bottom half.
The floodgates opened in the second, as DeSales tacked on nine more runs on nine hits. Angermeier's three-run double to left was followed by a two-run homer from Hromin, blowing the game wide open.
DelVal got on the board in the third when Bockrath crushed a two-out, two-run homer, her third of the season.
After Boyd and Karns were lifted,
Alyssa Scansaroli pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit and recording a strikeout.
With the losses, Delaware Valley falls to 16–11 overall and 2–8 in MAC Freedom play. The Aggies continue conference action on Saturday, April 19, with a doubleheader at Stevens Institute of Technology starting at 1:00 p.m.
