DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley softball team struggled to find offensive rhythm and dropped both games of a doubleheader to Arcadia University on Tuesday afternoon.
Game 1 | Arcadia 3 – Delaware Valley 0
The Knights got on the board early, scoring the only run they would need in the first inning. With a runner on second and two outs, Hinton reached on a DelVal fielding error, and Sommer followed with an RBI single to left, bringing home Diianni.
DelVal had an opportunity to answer in the bottom half of the inning.
Jillian Collins and
Kenzie Boyd singled, and
Tori Bockrath reached on an error, but all three runners were left stranded.
Arcadia added a pair of insurance runs in the third. With the bases loaded, Sommer delivered again with a single to center, scoring two more.
Amelia Funston singled up the middle in the seventh, but the Aggies were unable to mount a rally, as
Madison Karns popped out to end the game.
Karns pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs, and fell to 11-5 on the season.
Game 2 | Arcadia 5 – Delaware Valley 2
Arcadia struck early again in game two. Caldwell walked, stole second, and came around to score on a throwing error during an attempt to steal third.
With
Alyssa Scansaroli replacing Boyd in the circle and runners on the corners, Diianni stole second, allowing Caldwell to score on the throw. Later in the inning, Kozarski doubled to left, driving in two more for a 4-0 Knights lead.
The Aggies broke through in the sixth inning.
Yasmine Gonzalez singled through the left side, and
Sierra Ripka reached on a fielder's choice. A throwing error on the play allowed Gonzalez to score and Ripka to advance to third.
Jillian Collins followed with an infield single to second, bringing in Ripka to make it 5-2.
That would be the end of the scoring for DelVal, who fell to 16-9 overall and 2-6 in MAC Freedom play. The Aggies return to action on Thursday, April 17, when they travel to DeSales University.
