Bresnen Hits Two Grand Slams in Comeback Wins Over PSU-Abington

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Angelina Bresnen powered the Delaware Valley softball team to a dominant sweep of Penn State Abington with a pair of grand slams, racking up ten RBIs on the day.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 11 – PSU-Abington 2 (5 innings)

After Penn State Abington grabbed an early lead in the first inning, the action picked up again in the fourth. The Nittany Lions doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top half of the frame, but the Aggies stormed back in the bottom half.

Jillian Collins and Kenzie Boyd opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Angelina Bresnen then delivered a base hit to center field, scoring Collins and notching her 100th career hit—79 of those coming as an Aggie. Tori Bockrath followed with a towering shot over the fence, her first homer of the season, putting DelVal ahead 3-2.

With more runners on base, Taylor Mazzoni laid down a bunt and turned it into a double, scoring Madison Donnelly. Sierra Ripka followed with a single to left, bringing home Kathleen McGeoy. Boyd added an infield single to score Mazzoni, making it 7-2 Aggies.

Then, with the bases loaded, Bresnen came through again—this time crushing a grand slam to give Delaware Valley an 11-2 lead.

In the fifth, the Lions put a runner on base, but Madison Karns shut the door, striking out Logan and inducing a flyout to seal the Game 1 win.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 14 – PSU-Abington 10

Game 2 opened with fireworks from Penn State Abington, who jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first, including a three-run homer by Scotese.

But the Aggies didn't stay down long. In the bottom half, Ripka reached on an infield single and stole second. Collins laid down a sac bunt to move her over, and Boyd followed with a sac fly to center to get DelVal on the board. Bresnen was hit by a pitch and stole both second and third. Donnelly then doubled to left, scoring Bresnen and Bockrath—who had drawn a walk—cutting the deficit to 7-3.

In the third, Bockrath blasted her second home run of the day with a runner on, and after a double from Amelia Funston and another from Yasmine Gonzalez, the Aggies pulled within two.

The Lions tacked on two more in the fifth, but the Aggies weren't done.

Bresnen led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run. Bockrath doubled, Donnelly singled, and Gonzalez reached base before Ripka doubled to left, scoring two to tie the game at 10-10.

With the bases loaded, Bresnen delivered again, launching her second grand slam of the day to put the Aggies ahead for good.

Madison Karns earned the win in both games, improving to 11-4 on the season. The sophomore tossed 10.2 innings across the doubleheader, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run.

Following the sweep, Delaware Valley improved to 16-7 (2-4 MAC Freedom). The Aggies return to action on Tuesday, April 15, when they host Arcadia University for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
