Softball Dominates Day One of Spring Break

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – The Delaware Valley softball team opened its 2025 season in dominant fashion, securing impressive wins over Bridgewater State and SUNY Canton while allowing just one run over 12 innings.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 6 – Bridgewater State 0

Action picked up in the bottom of the third with two outs when Jillian Collins and Sierra Ripka both reached on infield singles. Kenzie Boyd then doubled to left field, scoring Collins to break the deadlock. Angelia Bresnen followed with a triple off the left-field fence, bringing home Boyd and Ripka to make it 3-0 DelVal.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tori Bockrath led off with a walk, followed by Amelia Funston, who was hit by a pitch. Madison Donnelly then singled up the middle, plating Bockrath. Madison Karns extended the lead to 5-0 with a double into right-center, driving in Funston, though Donnelly was tagged out on the play.

Following a pitching change, Karns advanced to third on a wild pitch and was driven in by Yasmine Gonzalez, who singled down the left side.

Karns was stellar in the circle, earning her first win of her sophomore season with nine strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 15 – SUNY Canton 1

Ripka opened Game 2 with a walk and stole second before Boyd sent a fly ball to center field. A throwing error allowed Ripka to score. Later in the inning, with two outs, Funston doubled to right-center and came home after a wild pitch and another error by Canton. The Aggies escaped a jam in the bottom of the first with runners on second and third, as Boyd forced a groundout to Gonzalez.

In the second, with runners on the corners, Funston singled through the left side, scoring Boyd. Bockrath followed with a double down the left-field line, bringing home Bresnen and extending the Aggies' lead to 5-0.

The third inning saw the Aggies load the bases, and Boyd delivered with a single that scored Collins and Jillian Ulozas. Bresnen and Funston kept the pressure on, allowing Bockrath to walk in a run before Donnelly's infield single plated Bresnen. Canton managed to score their lone run in the bottom half of the inning.

With two outs in the fourth, Isabella Davis singled, and Alyssa Scansaroli followed with a single to center, advancing to second on the throw. Taylor Mazzoni walked before Funston cleared the bases with a double down the right-field line, putting DelVal up 12-1. Two more runs came across after a Bockrath walk and a Donnelly triple to center. The Aggies' final run came when Donnelly scored on a wild pitch.

Boyd controlled the game from the circle, striking out four over five innings while allowing just five singles.

The Aggies return to action on Monday, March 10, in Little River, S.C., where they will face Hilbert College and the United States Coast Guard Academy.
