LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – The Delaware Valley softball team secured two more wins, improving to a perfect 4-0 record in North Myrtle Beach to start the 2025 season. Both contests were tied midway before the Aggies pulled away for victory.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 7 – Gwynedd Mercy 2
Gwynedd Mercy left two runners stranded in the first inning before Delaware Valley came up to bat.
Sierra Ripka reached on an error after the ball got past the first baseman. She then advanced to third after stealing second and taking third on a passed ball. Ripka later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Aggies a 1-0 lead.
In the second, McLaughlin walked, advanced to third with two outs, and scored when Heim singled to right field, tying the game. In the bottom half,
Madison Karns walked, and
Jillian Ulozas entered to pinch run. Ulozas advanced on a wild pitch and reached third when
Jillian Collins beat out an infield single to shortstop. Ripka then sent a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Ulozas and putting DelVal back in front.
A runner on second in the third inning set up a game-tying single to center field by Baumeister, evening the score at two.
The Aggies broke the game open in the fourth.
Madison Donnelly led off with a single through the left side and was later driven home by Karns, who doubled to left center.
Yasmine Gonzalez singled and stole second before Collins reached on an error, bringing home Karns. Ripka followed with a groundout to second base, scoring Gonzalez.
Kenzie Boyd then singled to left center to drive in Collins, and
Angelina Bresnen capped off the inning with a double to left center, plating Boyd for a 7-2 lead.
Karns and the Aggies' defense shut down the Griffins the rest of the way, retiring them in order over the final three innings. Karns picked up her second win of the season, striking out five in a complete-game effort.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 5 – Dickinson 3
Dickinson jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning—one off a triple to right field and another on a single up the middle—both coming off Karns, who started her second game of the day.
In the third, Collins recorded DelVal's first hit of the game, and Ripka followed with a triple to the left-center fence, cutting the deficit in half. With two outs, Bresnen singled through the left side, bringing home Ripka and tying the game at 2-2.
The Aggies took control in the fourth.
Tori Bockrath and
Amelia Funston both walked to start the inning, forcing Dickinson into a pitching change.
Kathleen McGeoy was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Ulozas popped out to second, and Collins reached on a fielder's choice, with Bockrath getting thrown out at the plate. With the bases still loaded, Ripka worked a walk to drive in Gonzalez, giving DelVal the lead. Boyd, now in the circle for the Aggies, then singled to left field, bringing in two key insurance runs for a 5-2 advantage.
Dickinson threatened in the seventh, scoring one run, but Boyd shut the door by striking out Blanker and inducing a groundout from Kohan to seal the win—her second of the season.
Delaware Valley wraps up its 2025 spring break trip on Thursday, March 13, with three games against Brevard, Lycoming, and Minn. Morris.
