BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Luke Witko and
Ryley Savering each scored four goals for the Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team, while
Danil Didden earned his first career victory in his first start, leading the Aggies to a dominant 14-3 win over Bryn Athyn on Saturday afternoon.
Neither team generated a quality scoring chance until six minutes into the game when
Owen Kelly and
Kieran Schneider hit the crossbar on back-to-back attempts. A few minutes later, in his first career start in goal,
Danil Didden made his first save. The Aggies finally broke the scoreless tie with 1:55 left in the first quarter when Schneider found the back of the net. However, the Lions responded just before the buzzer to even the score at 1-1.
In the second quarter, Schneider fired an early shot wide but quickly redeemed himself by reclaiming the lead for DelVal off an assist from Kelly, who scooped up a ground ball from
Jameson Filippo. The Aggies then successfully killed off a penalty, and a caused turnover by Didden set up Savering's first goal of the afternoon. Just over a minute later, Savering struck again, extending the Aggies' lead to 4-1 heading into halftime.
DelVal's offense exploded in the third quarter, starting with
Ryan Lindberg's first goal of the season just 1:21 into the frame. The Lions then took an unnecessary roughness penalty, and the Aggies capitalized on the man-up opportunity when Savering connected with Schneider for another goal. Savering quickly followed with his third of the game at the 10:59 mark, and less than a minute later,
Sasha Didden netted his first career goal, giving DelVal an 8-1 advantage.
Witko joined the scoring frenzy, netting a goal off the ensuing faceoff after Flippo secured a ground ball. Three minutes later, Witko found the back of the net again to put the Aggies up by 10. He completed his hat trick with 39 seconds left in the quarter after
Sean Miller's initial shot went wide. The Lions managed to get one back with six seconds remaining, making it 12-2 heading into the final period.
In the fourth, Schneider and Liam Burns traded shots on net, but it wasn't until four minutes in that Miller set up Savering for his fourth goal of the day. Bryn Athyn's Christian Kalb made back-to-back saves with 10 minutes to go, but Witko added another tally to extend DelVal's lead to 14-2. The Lions refused to go quietly, scoring their third and final goal courtesy of Peter Delrossi. With 2:45 remaining, Didden made his fifth and final save to seal the victory.
With the win, the Aggies improve to a perfect 3-0 on the young 2025 season. DelVal returns to action at home on Wednesday, March 12, hosting Gwynedd Mercy at 7:00 p.m.
