DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball dropped both games of their 2025 home and conference opener against Misericordia, falling 11-7 and 8-3.
Game 1 | Misericordia 11 – Delaware Valley 7
DelVal jumped out to a strong start, plating five runs in the first inning.
Sierra Ripka led off with a single to right field and stole second.
Angelina Bresnen followed with an infield single before
Amelia Funston drove home Ripka with a single to center.
Madison Donnelly also singled to center, scoring Bresnen. After
Tori Bockrath loaded the bases,
Madison Karns cleared them with a triple to right-center, giving the Aggies a commanding 5-0 lead.
In the second inning,
Kenzie Boyd walked, and Bresnen reached on an error to put runners on the corners. Funston then singled to left, driving in Boyd to extend the lead to 6-0.
Misericordia responded in the third, scoring five runs off four hits and two Aggie errors, cutting the deficit to one.
In the fifth, Funesti homered off Karns to tie the game, and Boyd entered the circle for DelVal. With a runner on third, Slusser hit a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Cougars their first lead of the game.
The Aggies threatened in the bottom of the inning with
Taylor Mazzoni and
Jillian Collins reaching base, but a double play ended the frame.
DelVal evened the score in the sixth when Bresnen tripled and Funston followed with an RBI single to left-center, making it 7-7.
Misericordia regained control in the seventh, loading the bases and capitalizing with a two-run single from Russo before Foreman's three-run homer made it 11-7. The Aggies were unable to rally in the bottom half, sealing the loss.
Game 2 | Misericordia 8 – Delaware Valley 3
Misericordia struck early, scoring four runs in the first. With two outs and two on, Fizer singled to center to drive in two before Funesti launched a two-run homer over the right-field fence.
The Aggies responded in the bottom half. Boyd and Bresnen singled before Funston drove in Boyd to put DelVal on the board. After Karns popped out, Donnelly singled to center, scoring Bresnen. Bockrath loaded the bases, but
Yasmine Gonzalez grounded out, ending the inning.
Both teams went down in order in the second. In the third, the Cougars added a run following an Aggie error that would have ended the inning.
Misericordia extended their lead in the fourth when Foreman homered with two on, making it 8-2.
DelVal got one back in the sixth when Karns singled, advanced to third on a left-field error, and scored on a Bockrath grounder that resulted in another error. The Aggies had another opportunity in the seventh with two runners on but couldn't capitalize.
With the losses, the Aggies fall to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom play. They will look to bounce back on Tuesday, March 25, when they host Rosemont College for a doubleheader at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
