Donnelly Homers In Sweep Over Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball extended its winning streak to five games with a pair of victories over Centenary (N.J.), winning 9-0 and 7-3 on Thursday afternoon.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 9 – Centenary (N.J.) 0

The Aggies wasted no time getting on the board in the first. Jillian Collins, Kenzie Boyd, and Sierra Ripka loaded the bases with no outs for Madison Donnelly, who walked to bring in Collins. Amelia Funston followed with an RBI single to right, scoring Boyd. After Madison Karns reached on a fielder's choice to reload the bases, Tori Bockrath grounded into another fielder's choice, plating Donnelly for a 3-0 lead. The Aggies then retired the Cyclones in order in the bottom half.

With two outs in the second, Boyd and Ripka singled to put two runners on for Donnelly, who launched a three-run homer to center field—her first of the season and second of her career—stretching the lead to 6-0.

DelVal tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Bockrath led off with an infield single, and Yasmine Gonzalez worked a walk. Collins followed with a single to left to load the bases for Boyd, who ripped her first triple of the season to right field, clearing the bases and pushing the lead to 9-0.

Karns dominated in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits, and striking out two to earn her fifth win of the season.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 7 – Centenary (N.J.) 3

DelVal struck first in the opening inning. With two outs and Boyd on first, Funston reached on an error at the fence, allowing Boyd to score. After Angelina Bresnen reached on another error, Bockrath singled up the middle to drive in Funston, giving the Aggies a 2-0 lead. Centenary answered with a run in the bottom half, but Boyd ended the threat with a strikeout.

In the second, Collins reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second, and scored on Boyd's single to center, extending the lead to 3-1. The defense responded by retiring the Cyclones in order.

Bresnen doubled in the third and advanced on a throwing error before Bockrath's RBI single to right made it 4-1 DelVal.

The Cyclones threatened in the fourth with a runner on second, but the inning ended on a runner interference call.

In the fifth, Funston roped a single off the left-center fence. After a heads-up double play by Centenary on a strikeout, Bockrath doubled to the same spot, but Isabella Davis popped out to short, ending the scoring opportunity.

Centenary rallied in the sixth. Miller singled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and flyout, and scored on a single by Rosenberg. Rosenberg then reached second on an Aggie error before Morales singled to right to bring her home, cutting the lead to 4-3. However, Davis made a diving grab in left field to prevent further damage.

DelVal responded in the seventh. Boyd singled to left, and Donnelly reached on an error. With one out, Bresnen smashed a two-run triple to right-center. Bockrath followed with an infield single to bring in Bresnen, restoring the four-run cushion. Gonzalez was hit by a pitch, and Collins singled to load the bases, but Ripka popped up to end the inning.

Boyd pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs, and picked up her fourth victory of the season.

With the sweep, Delaware Valley improves to 9-2 overall and will host Misericordia for its 2025 home opener on Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m.
