Softball Sweeps Cedar Crest in Shutout Fashion

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley softball team dominated Cedar Crest in a doubleheader shutout, winning 11-0 and 9-0 while allowing just six combined hits.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 11 – Cedar Crest 0

Delaware Valley wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Sierra Ripka walked and stole second before Kenzie Boyd singled through the left side, putting runners on the corners. With the bases loaded after an error, Madison Karns singled to bring home Ripka. Madison Donnelly then walked, forcing in another run, and Tori Bockrath reached on a fielder's choice to score Amelia Funston, giving the Aggies a 3-0 lead.

Karns and the defense retired the Falcons in order, setting the stage for more runs in the second inning. Jillian Collins walked and advanced to second on Ripka's single to left. Boyd drove in Collins with a single down the left field line, and Angelina Bresnen followed with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Ripka to make it 5-0. After a pitching change, Funston delivered a two-run single to right, bringing home Bresnen and Boyd.

In the fourth, Bresnen walked and Funston singled through the right side to set up another scoring opportunity. Karns added an RBI single, Bockrath drove in Funston on a fielder's choice, and Collins contributed with an RBI single up the middle. The final Aggies run came when Ripka reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Donnelly.

Karns struck out the side in the fifth inning to secure her fourth win of the season, improving to 4-1.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 9 – Cedar Crest 0

After leaving three runners on base in the first, Delaware Valley struck in the second inning. Taylor Mazzoni reached on a bunt single, stole second, and advanced to third on Kathleen McGeoy's single to right. Collins then plated Mazzoni with a bunt single before Ripka launched a triple to center, scoring Collins for a 2-0 lead.

The game remained quiet until the fifth inning, when Boyd reached base and Bresnen singled to put runners on the corners. Bresnen stole second, and Donnelly delivered a two-run single up the middle, doubling DelVal's lead to 4-0.

In the sixth, Bresnen's sacrifice fly scored Ripka, and an error on a Funston grounder allowed Boyd to cross the plate. After Donnelly walked, Yasmine Gonzalez entered as a pinch runner and was quickly driven home by a Bockrath single up the middle. Isabella Davis capped off the scoring with a two-run single, sealing the Aggies' 9-0 victory.

Boyd pitched all six innings, striking out four while allowing just four hits on 81 pitches.

With the sweep, Delaware Valley improves to 7-2 overall. The Aggies return to action on Thursday, March 20, at Centenary (N.J.).
