Katie Martin led a six-goal charge to bring the deficit within just two, unable to close the gap completely DelVal dropped the contest 14-12.
The Lions took an early lead with three unanswered goals through the first eight minutes. Birmingham was the first to strike for the Aggies converting the free position shot with 2:09 on the clock to put DelVal on the board to end the first quarter, 3-1.
Back-to-back goals over 14 seconds for Albright in the second quarter created a four-point gap for the Aggies, 5-1. Birmingham drew the yellow with 12:20 on the clock, putting the Aggies down a person. McKeegan scooped up a ground ball and found the stick of
Katie Martin for the goal to cut the deficit down to three, 5-2. Birmingham added two more goals before the half, but the Lions put up five to create a six-goal edge headed into the half, 10-6.
DelVal came out of the half with momentum, scoring three consecutive goals across an eight-minute spurt. McKeegan kicked off the scoring with back-to-back unassisted shots followed by another shot unassisted for Martin to put DelVal back within three, 10-7. The teams traded goals with Birmingham netting the final score of the quarter to keep the Aggies within three, 11-8, heading into the final quarter of play.
The Aggies offense continued strong in the fourth quarter. With 13:05 on the clock, Birmingham quickly converted a goal, assisted by McKeegan. McKeegan followed up with a goal of her own to keep it a two-goal game, 12-10. The Lions put up two more to end the game but couldn't slow the Aggies offense leaving both Hostetler and Martin open for unassisted shots at the net to keep the final deficit to two, 14-12.
Birmingham led the scoring for the Aggies with five goals. She also led the stat lines in shots (19), shots on goal (14), ground balls (9) and caused turnovers (8).
The Aggies return to action next Wednesday, Mar. 5 when they travel to Notre Dame of Maryland at 4 p.m.
