Baseball Drops Doubleheader Games to Ursinus

Collegeville, Pa. – The Delaware Valley University baseball team drops doubleheader games to Ursinus, 11-1 and 10-6. 
 
After three quick outs for the Aggies, the Bears scored one run in the bottom of the first with two hits. After a scoreless second inning, Ursinus added four more runs onto their lead with three hits in the bottom of the third.
 
In the top of the sixth inning, Reese Hackett singled to the left side and advanced to third on a Liam Martin single. Hackett scored on a double play by the Bears, scoring one. The Bears held the lead 6-1. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bears put on three more runs on three hits. In the bottom of the eighth, the Bears scored two more runs, taking the 11-1 win.
 
Second Game
 
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Blake Ramos got the Aggies their first base runner with an infield single. Ramos scored on a single by Jared Ecenroad giving the Aggies an early 1-0 lead. The Bears had a runner on second base with one out, but with a strikeout and a fly-out by starting pitcher Travis Loewe, the Aggies ended the first inning.
 
Reese Hackett doubled down the line with a runner on second base, giving the Aggies a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Bears had a runner on third when they sacrificed bunted scoring one. After a scoreless third inning for the Aggies, the Bears scored three more runs on two hits giving them a 4-2 lead. Loewe pitched three innings allowing four runs with one strikeout. Derek Cannon replaced Loewe on the mound for the Aggies and ended the fourth inning with three fly-outs.
 
Gavin Migliori started the fifth inning off for the Aggies with a single to left field. After he stole second and advanced to third, Ramos singled up the middle scoring him. With Ramos on second, Nate Ludwick singled to right field tying the game 4-4.
 
The Aggies started with two straight walks in the sixth inning. With runners on first and third base, Daniel Murphy scored on a wild pitch, giving the Aggies the lead 5-4. With three ground-outs by the Bears, the Aggies take the lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Bears tied the game with a sacrifice bunt along with a single in the bottom of the seventh.
 
The score did not stay tied for long. Patrick Higgins started the eighth inning with a single up the middle. With a sacrifice bunt and a Martin single, Higgins scored giving the Aggies the lead 6-5. After three walks, an Aggie error, and one hit Ursinus took back the lead 10-6.  

The Aggies next game is Saturday, March 8th when they travel to Florida for their spring break games.
