Women’s Basketball Drops Lead in the Final Quarter to Fall to FDU-Florham at Home

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team led by as many as 13 points, but a 24-point fourth quarter for FDU-Florham pushed the Devils to victory 66-57.

The loss puts DelVal at 3-17 overall on the season and 1-8 in MAC Freedom play while FDU-Florham improves to 7-13 overall and 4-5 in conference action.

The Aggies trailed the Devils through the first three minutes falling behind by as many as five, 8-3, before Alexis Wright sunk the layup to change the momentum putting together a solo 4-2 run to bring the deficit to three, 10-7. Haley Keenan and Ciana Feliciano combined for back-to-back breakaway layups to shift the lead while Aubrey Ennis sunk the three-pointer at the 2:24 mark to create a four-point cushion for the Aggies, 14-10. The teams went five-for-five to finish the frame and keep DelVal in the lead, 19-15.

DelVal held the 4-2 edge through the first 3:37 to generate a six-point lead, 23-17. Slowly the Devils closed the gap to just three, but 100% shooting at the line from Wright kept the Aggies ahead by five, 25-20, with 2:49 until the half. FDU-Florham held a slight 9-8 scoring advantage over the final minutes leaving the Aggies with just a four-point lead at the half, 33-29.

A 6-2 spurt to start the half pushed the Aggies ahead by as many as seven, but the Devils responded with six unanswered points over a minute to cut DelVal's lead to just one, 39-38, and force a timeout. A nearly scoreless two minutes followed with Ennis getting just a single-point for the Aggies in the near-drought to keep a one-bucket lead, 40-38. The Devils once again finished the frame with a narrow 4-3 edge over the Aggies to trail by just three, 45-42, heading into the final quarter.

FDU-Florham brought the deficit within one point twice before sinking the three to take the lead for the first time since the first quarter, 49-47. The Devils continued their scoring streak with eight unanswered points to take a 10-point lead over the Aggies with 5:07 on the clock. Ennis took the floor and quickly ended the scoring drought teaming up with Keenan for the layup. The Devils ended the game with a 9-8 run for the 66-57 victory.
