Women’s Basketball Edges Out Goucher on the Road

TOWSON, Md. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with Goucher for 40 minutes and pulled away late to secure a hard-fought 75–69 victory.

Goucher grabbed a slim early lead, but perfect shooting at the free-throw line from Ciana Feliciano and Alexis Wright, along with a Jayla Rivera layup, pushed the Aggies in front 8–6. After the Gophers evened the score, foul trouble sent DelVal back to the line, where a 3-of-4 stretch sparked an 8–2 run capped by a Feliciano three-pointer to build a 16–10 advantage. Julianna Harris added free throws in the final 16 seconds to keep DelVal ahead 18–13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Gophers trimmed the deficit to one early in the second before Wright opened the quarter's scoring for DelVal. Goucher continued to chip away and briefly took a one-point lead, but Rivera answered from deep to ignite an 8–3 Aggies run, giving DelVal a 30–26 edge. Two late Goucher three-pointers swung the momentum heading into halftime, as the Gophers took a 32–30 lead.

DelVal set the tone coming out of the break. Wright converted a layup to tie the game, then Feliciano picked up a steal and found Whitney Evans for a fast-break layup before knocking down a three of her own to put the Aggies ahead 37–32. Goucher responded, closing within two on two occasions and using a 6–0 run to briefly regain the lead. Payton Witman went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line late in the quarter to help DelVal reclaim the advantage, heading into the final period up 49–47.

The Aggies maintained control early in the fourth, holding a 10–7 edge over the first four minutes, highlighted by an Evans three-pointer to make it 59–54. Foul trouble led to a brief scoring drought for DelVal, allowing Goucher to capitalize at the line and use an 8–0 run to take a 62–59 lead. Evans halted the surge with another three-pointer, and DelVal closed the game on a decisive 16–7 run to secure the 75–69 win.

Feliciano led the Aggies on both ends of the floor, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. The senior was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line, shot 100 percent from three-point range, and added a team-high four steals and one block. As a team, DelVal shot 82 percent from the charity stripe, totaling 32 points at the line.
