DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team was unable to find a consistent offensive rhythm, falling to Immaculata 76-58 at home.
Alexis Wright opened the scoring with a layup to snap a three-minute drought and give the Aggies an early edge, but an Immaculata three-pointer sparked an 11-2 run that set the tone. Wright added another bucket to cut the deficit to five, though the Mighty Macs answered with seven straight points.
Julianna Harris went 2-for-2 from the field in the final minute, but a late Immaculata triple pushed the lead to double digits at the end of the first quarter, 21-10.
Immaculata continued to control the pace in the second quarter, extending its lead to 16 while holding DelVal to four points in the opening five minutes on baskets from Harris and
Ciana Feliciano. The Aggies matched the Mighty Macs point-for-point down the stretch behind Wright, Feliciano and
Whitney Evans, keeping the margin at 16 heading into halftime, 30-26.
Sharp shooting out of the break proved costly for DelVal, as Immaculata shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field and 80 percent (4-of-5) from three in the third quarter. Wright scored eight of the Aggies' 17 points in the frame, going 3-of-4 from the foul line and hitting a late three, but the deficit grew to 22 entering the fourth, 59-37.
The Aggies showed renewed energy in the final quarter. Wright opened the frame with a three to pull DelVal within 20, while Evans added a triple to keep Immaculata at bay. DelVal outscored the Mighty Macs 15-13 over the final seven minutes behind six points from
Emma Miller and five from Feliciano, keeping the final margin under 20, 76-58.
Wright led DelVal with 21 points, eight rebounds and one block. Feliciano added a team-high eight steals, the most by an Aggie in a single game this season.
DelVal returns to action Saturday, Dec. 20, traveling to Goucher for a 1 p.m. tipoff to close out its three-game week.
