DALLAS, Pa. – Delaware Valley took down first-place Misericordia, 51-20, on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies struck early after Jovan Tyrell intercepted Hunter on the second play of the game, setting up the offense deep in Misericordia territory. Mike Galasso connected with Gavin Migliori and Alvaro Lora to move the chains, and Brendan Hazell knocked through a short field goal to give DelVal the early lead. The defense forced a quick three-and-out before Galasso hit Alex Rufe for 40 yards and Brady Beres rushed for 11. Moments later, Galasso found Migliori down to the one, and Justin Brown punched it in up the middle for a 10-0 start.
Misericordia moved deep into Aggie territory on the next drive, but Tyrell again came up big, breaking up a fourth-down pass to turn the ball over. Galasso then hit Kahir Thompson for a series of short gains before connecting again, and Thompson found space for a 68-yard touchdown.
The Cougars answered with a touchdown pass from Hunter to McCleery, but the Aggies responded quickly. Galasso hit Rufe for 19 yards and then Lora for an 11-yard touchdown to push it to 24-7. Misericordia converted a fourth down late in the half and Hunter found Rucci for a score, but with just 23 seconds left, the Aggies made it count. Thompson hauled in a 42-yard catch, Migliori added a 17-yarder, and Galasso scrambled into the end zone himself to make it 31-14 at halftime.
Out of the break, Lora caught a pass over the middle down to the MIS 19. Brown gained nine yards after a false start before Lora hauled in his second touchdown of the afternoon from 15 yards out. Misericordia answered again as Hunter connected with Alston for a score to cut it to 38-20, but the Aggies' defense stood tall from there.
After the Cougars drove into the red zone, Micah Bootman intercepted Hunter at the DVU 17. Brown powered the next drive, highlighted by a 45-yard run, before Beres capped it off from two yards out. Tanner Webb blocked a Misericordia punt on the following possession, and Peyton Murphy finished the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run for the 51-20 final.
Delaware Valley improves to 6-3 overall and 6-2 in MAC play, sitting second in the conference. The Aggies will close out the regular season next Saturday at home, hosting Widener in the annual Keystone Cup.
