Men's Basketball Surrenders Late Lead in Loss to McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Delaware Valley men's basketball led McDaniel for most of the afternoon, but the Green Terror surged late as the Aggies fell 71-65 on Saturday.

Jordan Strickland opened the scoring with a step-back three after Mike Herrin pulled down an offensive board, and Antonio Redding knocked down back-to-back jumpers to push the early lead to 9-2. Kamal Johnson converted a three-point play to make it a 10-point advantage before Ashenafi responded with a layup and a triple off a DelVal turnover. A 10-0 McDaniel run was stopped by a Strickland free throw, but the Green Terror tied the game and took their first lead with nine minutes left.

Herrin answered with a three and then a steal-and-score moments later. McDaniel led 27-23 when JT Wright drilled a three, and a Redding floater put DelVal back on top. Redding later went on a 7-0 run himself, fueled by a steal, before the teams traded the lead again. In the closing seconds, a Herrin triple followed by a Redding pull-up three sent the Aggies into halftime up 39-37.

The teams traded buckets early in the second before Herrin buried back-to-back threes. Johnson added two at the stripe, and Brian Mordi completed a three-point play to build a 54-45 advantage. McDaniel clawed within two, but Redding's driving finish—his 19th point—pushed the lead back to four.

The Green Terror answered with a 9-2 run to go ahead 65-62, with Shaffer scoring four and Strickland forced to exit briefly with his fourth foul at 2:33. Shaffer added two more free throws, and after a missed Redding three, McDaniel held a five-point edge with 37 seconds left. Johnson hit a late three, but the Aggies were forced to foul and couldn't close the gap in the final moments.

Delaware Valley falls to 3-2 and will travel to Haverford College on Tuesday, Nov. 25 for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
