GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team opened its 2025-26 campaign on the road Wednesday night, showing resilience in a 64-54 loss to Rowan University. The Aggies used a strong third-quarter surge to trim a 22-point deficit down to 10 multiple times but couldn't complete the comeback against the Profs.
Rowan jumped out to a 6-0 lead before
Alexis Wright put DelVal on the board with a jumper four minutes into the game. Turnovers hampered the Aggies' early offensive rhythm, but they shot 50% from the field in the opening quarter to stay within reach, trailing 15-7.
DelVal found its stride in the second quarter. An early layup from
Julianna Harris and two free throws from
Jayla Rivera sparked the offense, cutting the deficit to 17-11.
Ciana Feliciano came off the bench and immediately made an impact, draining a three-pointer to keep the momentum rolling.
Whitney Evans added a pair from the line to make it a one-point game at 17-16. The Aggies continued to battle, but Rowan closed the half on a 17-4 run to take a 34-20 lead into the break.
Wright led the charge out of halftime, breaking up an 8-0 Rowan run with a three-pointer and a layup to bring the score to 42-25. The Aggies' defense locked in, holding the Profs scoreless for more than two minutes while Feliciano converted a three-point play to fuel the comeback effort.
Payton Witman and Evans followed with back-to-back layups to cap a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to 10, 42-32.
Rowan rebuilt its lead to 17 entering the fourth, but DelVal refused to go away. Wright knocked down her second three of the night, and Evans and
Anijah Davis chipped in to bring the Aggies back within 10 at 56-46. Evans and Wright continued to find success late, combining for eight points in the final stretch to keep the margin at 10 as the Aggies fell, 64-54.
Evans paced the Aggies with 17 points and four rebounds on the night. Harris led the battle on the boards with nine rebounds, while five different Aggies recorded a steal. Feliciano was perfect from the line, going 3-for-3 to lead the team in free throws made.
DelVal returns to action this Friday, Nov. 14 welcoming Neumann to James Work Gymnasium for the home opener. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
