Women’s Basketball Drops Conference Home Opener Against Lebanon Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team struggled to get a scoring run going through the first three quarters and were unable to keep up with the momentum of the Lebanon Valley offense dropping the contest 69-41 on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies fall to 2-11 on the season and 0-2 in conference play while the Flying Dutchmen improve to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in MAC Freedom play.

A slow scoring start skewed in favor of the Flying Dutchmen with six points over the first five minutes while Alexis Wright managed the lone basket for the Aggies over the span. LVC held DelVal to just nine more points in the quarter while using a 3-of-4 performance from beyond the arc to help extend its lead to eight, 19-11.

A four-minute scoring drought for the Aggies pushed the Flying Dutchmen to an 11-point lead, but Payton Witman answered the call ending the scoring slump with the layup to bring the deficit back down into single-digits, 22-13. Witman's run continued nearly a minute later when Wright saved the almost out-of-bounds ball placing it right into the hands of Witman for the layup to make it a seven-point game, 22-15, with 4:50 left in the half. LVC held the 12-2 edge through the rest of the frame to take a 34-17 lead into the second half.

LVC shot 50% from both the field and the long range to outscore the Aggies 17-6 in the third quarter and take a 28-point lead, 51-23. Scoring improved for DelVal matching the Flying Dutchmen with 18 points in the final quarter led by Wright with eight points, but it was too little too late as the Aggies ultimately dropped the contest 69-41.

Wright led the Aggies in scoring with 13 points. She was joined by Keenan in double digits with 10. Keenan also led the battle at the boards pulling down nine rebounds.

DelVal returns to action on the road this Wednesday, Jan. 15 at FDU-Florham for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
