HENNIKER, N.H. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team dominated the second-half offense against New England College, but struggled to overcome a two-goal deficit falling to the Grims 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
New England College held the offensive advantage in the first quarter outshooting the Aggies 4-1. DelVal got their only look in the 13
th minute with
Sydney Keagle on the goal line for the insert on the corner. Keagle located
Paige Sammons at the top of the circle for the shot blocked to end the action in the first frame.
DelVal defense opened the second quarter fending off four-straight penalty corner attempts from the Grims.
Ashley Birmingham flew from the cage to block a shot followed up with a clear from
Kenzie Boyd on the next attempt to change the possession in favor of the Aggies.
New England followed up converting their next two corner attempts in the frame. The Grims lifted shots to the top left and center of the cage just out of reach for DelVal goalie
Alyssa Rudd for the 2-0 lead.
The Aggies offense came out stronger in the third quarter with the squad earning three penalty corners in the final 20 seconds of the frame.
Jillian Collins and Sammons both fired off shots that met the pads of the Grims' goalkeeper.
DelVal continued to dominate the offense in the fourth quarter with three penalty corners and five shots while holding New England to just two shots. The Aggies struggled to convert ultimately dropping the contest 2-0.
DelVal returns to action on Wednesday, Sep. 4 at 4 p.m. for the team's home opener against Gwynedd Mercy.
