Delaware Valley Softball Splits MAC Crossover Double Header With Widener

CHESTER, PA.-  The Delaware Valley softball team traveled to Chester, Pennsylvania, to face off against Widener in a MAC conference crossover double header on Tuesday, April 9th. Delaware Valley entered the day with a record of 10-10 coming off a doubleheader series sweep against King's on Sunday. The Pride entered this game with a record of 6-10 coming off of two losses over the weekend. The Aggies would go on to split the doubl header dropping the first game 5-4 and winning the second game 7-0.

Starting in the circle for the first game of the doubleheader is Alyssa Scansaroli.

Widener would get the scoring started in the bottom of the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead early. 

The Aggies would tie up the game in the top of the 3rd inning with a lead off double from Madison Donnelly, followed by an RBI single from Makenna Cooper.

In the bottom half of the inning, Widener would hit a solo home run to retake a one-run lead.

The Pride would extend their lead in the bottom of the 4th inning with an RBI single, followed by an error.

Widener would then score two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with a pair of singles to take a 5-1 lead. 

Madison Karns would then enter the game in relief for Delaware Valley in the 5th inning.

The Aggies would rally in the top of the 6th inning as Tori Bockrath would score Yasmine Gonzalez on an RBI single to cut the deficit 5-2.

Amelia Funston would come up huge for the Aggies with a two-run RBI double to make it a 5-4 ballgame. Widener would get out of the two-out jam with runners on the corners to enter the final inning with a one-run lead.

The Pride would hold on in the top of the 7th inning and take game one of the MAC crossover double header.


Starting in the circle for the second game of the doubleheader is Madison Karns.

DelVal would get off to a fast start as Kenzie Boyd would notch an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Yasmine Gonzalez would then hit a sacrifice fly to score Madison Donnelly in the top of the 2nd to extend the lead 2-0.

Through four innings, Madison Karns would not allow a single run and only allowed one hit against the Pride.

The Aggies would get a spark in the top of the 5th inning as Yasmine Gonzalez would hit a home run to give her team a 3-0 lead.

Jillian Ulozas and Sierra Ripka would notch RBIs in the top of the 6th inning as Delaware Valley would lead 5-0. 

More insurance runs for DelVal in the 7th inning as Madison Donnelly would continue her big day at the plate with a two-run RBI single. Delaware Valley would hold on and take game two of the doubleheader by a score of 7-0

Karns would finish the game throwing a total of 75 pitching while allowing zero runs, one hit, one walk, and notching five strikeouts. This is the second consecutive complete-game shutout one-hitter for Delaware Valley pitcher Madison Karns

Delaware Valley moved to 11-11 on the season and 7-7 in non-conference play. DelVal will be back in action on April 11th at home against PSU Abington.
