Delaware Valley Softball Sweeps King's. Karns Throws Complete Game Shutout In Game One

WILKES-BARRE, PA.-  The Delaware Valley softball team traveled to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to face off against King's in a MAC conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 7th. Delaware Valley entered the day with a record of 8-10 coming off a split series against Stevens last weekend. The Monarchs entered this game with a record of 10-10 coming off of two losses to Scranton earlier in the week. The Aggies would go on to take both games of the MAC doubleheader as Delaware Valley would win game one 5-0 and game two 6-5.

Starting in the circle for the first game of the doubleheader is Madison Karns

Delaware Valley would take the lead in the top of the first inning as Kenzie Boyd hit an RBI single to score Sierra Ripka. The Aggies would then take a 2-0 lead as Amelia Funston would hit an RBI single to score Angelina Bresnen. The big first inning would continue for DelVal when Ally Byrne would hit an RBI single to score Boyd, giving DelVal a 3-0 lead early.

Through four innings of play, Delaware Valley would lead 3-0 as Madison Karns didn't allow a single base hit or walk up to that point.

Delaware Valley would extend their lead 4-0 as Amelia Funston would notch her second RBI of the day on a single to left field, scoring Tori Bockrath. The Aggies would then lead 5-0 soon after as Madison Karns singled up the middle to score Kenzie Boyd.

Through six innings, Karns didn't allow a single hit as she would enter the final inning three outs away from a no-hitter. The Monarch's offense would finally come through in the 7th to break up the no-hitter on a single up the middle with two outs. However, Delaware Valley would hold on and take game one by a score of 5-0. In seven innings pitched, Karns only allowed one hit and no walks, while notching six strikeouts.

Starting in the circle for the second game of the doubleheader was once again Madison Karns

Delaware Valley would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning as Amelia Funston would hit an RBI single to score Kenzie Boyd.

Through three full innings, Delaware Valley still led by a score of 1-0, as Karns continued her dominant day only allowing one hit in the first three innings.

Delaware Valley took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th as Madison Donnelly doubled to left field to score Tori Bockrath.

The Aggies then would take a 4-0 lead in the top of the 5th inning as Angelina Bresnen and Tori Bockrath hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Kenzie Boyd would then soon after hit an RBI single to make it 5-0.

King's would rally in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring four runs to make it a 5-4 ballgame. During the inning, pitcher Madison Karns was replaced by Alyssa Scansaroli, who came in relief.

Delaware Valley would enter the bottom of the 7th inning holding a 5-4 lead, but the Monarchs were able to tie up the game on an RBI single to make it 5-5. The Aggies would get out of the jam and the game would be heading to extras.

In the 8th inning, Sierra Ripka hit a double to center field to score Madison Karns. The Aggies would hold onto the lead and take game two by a score of 6-5. Delaware Valley moved to 10-10 on the season and 4-4 in conference play. DelVal will be back in action on April 9th on the road against Widener.
