Aggies Split on Senior Day to End Season

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley baseball team celebrated their seniors before going on to split with FDU-Florham to round out the season. DelVal completes the season with a final record of 13-24 overall and 4-17 in conference play.
 
In game one, Evan Scally and Andrew Schneider led off the bottom of the third for the Aggies both drawing the walk to put men on first and second. Nick Koch popped up to the first basemen to bring back up the top of the order for DelVal. Ridge Watson was hit by the pitch to load the bases with Liam Martin at the plate. Martin reached on an error bringing in Scally to put the Aggies ahead 1-0. Hank Bielen followed up batting in Schneider with a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 lead.
 
DelVal's bats remained hot putting up five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Gavin Migliori started things off strong with a triple to right field. James Miskanic was up in the order hitting a single down the left field line to score Migliori for the 3-0 edge. With two outs, Nick Koch was hit by the pitch to advance to first and put Miskanic on second as the Aggies moved back to the top of the order with Watson back at home plate. Watson singled up the middle to score Miskanic and advance Koch to third who went on to score on a wild pitch making it a 5-0 game.
 
The Devils tried to mount a comeback with two runs over the next two innings, but the Aggies were quick to respond with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Watson singled to start things off advancing to second thanks to a walk from Martin and eventually to third on a wild pitch. A fielder's choice for Bielen scored Watson and placed Martin in scoring position. Martin was called out trying to steal home, but the play allowed Bielen to advance into scoring position. Migliori singled through the left side to score Bielen and put DelVal in a 7-2 advantage.
 
Trouble on the mound for the Aggies allowed the Devils to put up 13 runs across two innings to walk away with the 15-7 win in game one.
 
DelVal took another early lead to start game two. After giving up one run in the top of the second, Drews started off the lineup for DelVal hitting a double to left field and brought home by a single from Migliori that was bobbled by the Devils short stop. The Aggies recorded back-to-back strike outs to put Tyler Mellinger at the plate to earn the walk, but a wild pitch on ball four advanced Migliori home for the run and the 2-1 lead.
 
The Aggies came up big in the bottom of the third with five runs on four hits and one error. Reese Hackett and Martin both singled followed by a walk from Bielen to load the bases. Drews grounded out to score Hackett followed by a single from Migliori to score Martin for the 4-1 lead. A wild pitch on the next at bat brought home Hackett and advanced Migliori into scoring position where he was brought home on the next play thanks to an error from the short stop. Nathan Fisher reached first thanks to the error and scored on the double to left field from Scally to put the Aggies up 7-1.
 
DelVal gave up two runs in the top of the fourth, but gained a nine-run lead over the Devils thanks to an explosive fifth inning. Fisher walked to get on base and earned the first run of the inning thanks to a single up the middle from Tyler Mellinger. A fielder's choice put Samuele Mattia in play taking advantage of two wild pitches to reach third. Both Hackett and Martin landed on base with Martin's single to the left side advancing Mattia home for the 9-3 lead. Bielen stepped up to the plate ripping a home run out to left center field scoring both Hackett and Martin to advance the Aggies' lead to 12-3.
 
The Aggies moved on to the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded and Mattia up to bat hitting the sacrifice fly out to left field to score Migliori and put the Aggies ahead by double-digits, 13-3, quickly brought back down by the Devils thanks to two runs in the top of the seventh, 13-5.
 
DelVal finished things off big with Martin singling to the right side and Bielen doubling to center field to score Martin for the 14-5 advantage. A sacrifice fly to center field from Drews put Bielen on third and another sacrifice fly from Migliori brought him home for the 15-5 victory to end the game.
