DOYLESTOWN, PA.- The Delaware Valley Softball team hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State Brandywine in a non-conference showdown on Tuesday, April 23rd at the DVU Softball Field. In between games, Delaware Valley hosted Senior Night and honored their lone senior, Makenna Cooper.
The Aggies come into today's match up with a record of 15-15 coming off a doubleheader series loss against Lebanon Valley. PSU Brandywine comes into today's match up with a record of 29-7 and a first-place lead in their conference standings. Delaware Valley would go on to their final home games of the season
Pitching for Delaware Valley in game one is Madison Karns.
Penn State would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on a two-out RBI bloop single to right field.
Penn State would hit another RBI single to right field to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Penn State would make an error as Kenzie Boyd would score to make it 2-1.
Madison Donnelly would lead off the bottom of the 6th with a double Followed by an RBI single from Amelia Funston to tie up the game 2-2. In the top of the 7th inning, PSU Brandywine would score three runs and hold onto a 5-2 win in game one.
Pitching for Delaware Valley in game two is Kenzie Boyd.
PSU would score two runs in the top of the 3rd inning and two runs in the top of the 4th inning to take a 4-0 lead.
DelVal responded with two runs scored in the bottom of the 4th inning with an RBI double from Tori Bockrath and an RBI single from Kathleen McGeoy.
Penn State would make it 6-2 in the top of the 5th with a two-run RBI single up the middle.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Aggies would score on an error followed up by an RBI double from Tori Bockrath to make it a 6-4 ballgame. Jillian Ulozas would hit an RBI single to make it 6-5.
In the top of the 6th inning, PSU Brandywine would score three runs to extend their lead to 9-5.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, The Delaware Valley offense would shine as The Aggies exploded for twelve runs to earn a 17-9 mercy rule victory. Angelina Bresnen would get things going with a two-run RBI single to cut the deficit to 9-7. After Bresnen scored on a wild pitch, Tori Bockrath blasted her second home run of the season to give the Aggies an 11-9 lead. The Aggie would then follow up with RBI base hits from Jillian Collins, Kenzie Boyd, Madison Donnelly, and Angelina Bresnen to give DelVal the game-two win. Delaware Valley's bats tallied a a season high of eleven base hits in the twelve run 6th inning.
Delaware Valley officially ends their home regular season record to 7-7 in the 2024 season. DelVal improves their record to 16-16 and 10-8 in non conference play.
The Aggies will be back in action on Thursday, April 25th, when they travel to Immaculata to face off against the Mighty Macs.
