DelVal Softball Splits Doubleheader With Centenary

 

DOYLESTOWN, PA.-  

The Delaware Valley Softball team hosted the Cyclones of Centenary in a non-conference showdown on Thursday, April 18th at the DVU Softball Field. The Aggies come into today's matchup with a record of 14-12 coming off a doubleheader series sweep against Cedar Crest. Centenary comes into today's matchup with a record of 18-7 coming off two losses against Kean. Delaware Valley would go on to split the doubleheader losing game one and winning game two

Pitching for Delaware Valley in game one is Madison Karns.

Both team's pitching and defense played well through the first four innings as the score was tied 0-0 entering the 5th inning.

In the top of the 5th inning, Centenary's offense would break through and notch an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones would then score four runs on five hits in the top of the 6th inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Delaware Valley would answer back with two runs as Amelia Funston and Madison Donnelly would hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it a 5-2 ballgame.

Centenary would put the game away with some key insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning to take a 10-2 lead. The Cyclones offense totaled five runs on five hits in the top of the 7th inning to take the commanding lead. 

The Aggies would score three runs in the bottom of the 7th with RBIs from Sierra Ripka and Angelina Bresnen. DelVal would drop game one by a score of 10-5.

Pitching for Delaware Valley in game two is Kenzie Boyd.

Both team's pitching and defense once again played well through the first three innings as the score was tied 0-0 entering the 4th inning.

After loading the bases, the Aggies would then capitalize on a Centenary error in the top of the 4th inning to score two runs and take a 2-0 lead.

Centenary would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the 5th inning capitalizing on a DelVal error.

In the bottom half of the inning, Amelia Funston would notch a two-run RBI double to take it a 4-1 lead for Delaware Valley. A sacrifice fly from Jillian Ulozas, followed by an RBI single from Kenzie Boyd would extend the Aggies lead 6-1.

Centenary would hit a two home run in the top of the 6th inning to cut the Aggies lead to 6-3. Delaware Valley would hold on to take a 6-3 win in game two.

Delaware Valley would improve their season record to 15-13and non-conference record to 9-7. This would be the Aggies softball program's fifteenth win of the regular season. The Aggies will be back in action on Saturday, April 20th, against the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley in a home MAC conference doubleheader.
