DelVal Baseball Suffers Loss To Elizabethtown. Blue Jays Break 1-1 Tie In The Eight Inning

Vero Beach, Fl. - Delaware Valley baseball faced off against Elizabethtown in their fourth game of the 2024 Spring Break Trip down in Vero Beach, Florida. The Aggies are recently coming off a yesterday afternoon 4-3 loss to Ursinus in game one of their double header. Elizabethtown came into today's game coming off of a yesterday loss to Kenyon College  In a closely contested match up between these two teams, Elizabethtown would go on to break a 1-1 tie in the eight inning and defeat Delaware Valley by a score of 7-1.

Starting for Delaware Valley on the mound was sophomore Connor Esbenshade.

Delaware Valley would get the bases loaded early with no outs from a walk from senior Johnathan Drews, followed by a single from grad student Hank Bielen. The Aggies were not able to capitalize as Elizabethtown would escape out of the jam with zero runs allowed.

The Blue Jays would start off the scoring with an rbi single up the middle off of Ebenshade to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead.

The Aggies would start the fourth inning with singles from junior Tyler Mellinger and sophomore Gavin Migliori. DelVal would then tie the game with a sacrifice fly from junior Jimmy Kelly to score Mellinger from third base.

Connor Esbenshade would throw five innings for Delaware Valley only allowing two hits and one run. The sophomore notched four strike outs in his first outing of the Spring Break trip. 

In the top of the 6th inning, junior Derek Cannon entered the game on the mound for Delaware Valley. With a runner on third base, the junior notched a massive strikeout to keep the game tied going into the bottom half of the inning. 

The Aggies offense was not able to capitalize and the score would remain 1-1 through seven innings played. 

Elizabethtown would break through in the eight inning with two runs scored. Senior Jacob Mcdonnell entered the game with a runner on to try and limit the damage. The Blue Jays were able to notch one more run in the inning and take a 4-1 lead.

After another run scored in the 9th, first year Aiden Devlin took the mound for Delaware Valley. Elizabethtown would continue to break the game open as they scored tow more runs in the inning to take a 7-1 lead. 

Delaware Valley weren't able to mount the comeback and the Blue Jays would take the 7-1 win.

The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow, March 5th to finish game two of the Ursinus double header that was delayed due to rain.
