DOYLESTOWN, PA - The Delaware Valley softball team hosted the Ducks of Stevens in a MAC conference doubleheader on Friday, March 29th. Delaware Valley entered the day with a record of 7-9 coming off two losses yesterday to Franklin & Marshall. The Ducks entered this game with a record of 10-8 coming off of two losses to Kean earlier in the week. The Aggies and the Ducks would go on to split the doubleheader as Stevens would win game one and Delaware Valley would win game two.
Starting in the circle for the first game of the doubleheader is Madison Karns.
The Ducks would start off the game strong in the bottom of the 1st inning with a two-run RBI triple to take a 2-0 lead early.
The Aggies would respond in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back base hits from Sierra Ripka and Yasmine Gonzalez. Angelina Bresnen would cut the deficit 2-1 with an RBI double that would score Ripka. Delaware Valley would then tie up the game 2-2 with a sacrifice fly from Kenzie Boyd, scoring Gonzalez. The Aggies offense would continue to roll as Amelia Funston would drive in another run with an RBI single to take a 3-2 lead.
Entering the game in the circle in the top of the 2nd inning for Delaware Valley was Kenzie Boyd.
After a scoreless 2nd inning of play, Stevens would draw a walk with the bases loaded to tie up the game in the 3rd inning. Boyd and the Aggies defense would then force three outs in a row to get out of the jam and keep the score tied 3-3.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, Funston would earn her second RBI of the day with an RBI double to left field to take a 4-3 lead. The Aggies would capitalize on an error later in the inning to extend the lead 5-3.
The next two innings would remain scoreless as the Aggies would enter the last inning with a 5-3 lead.
Stevens would rally with five runs in the top of the 7th inning with a total of six base hits to take an 8-5 lead. The Aggies offense wasn't able to respond in the bottom half of the inning, allowing Stevens to take home the win.
Starting in the circle for game number two for the Aggies was once again Madison Karns.
Stevens would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning scoring on a wild pitch.
Angelina Bresnen would hit a two-out double in the bottom half of the inning to give the Aggies a runner-in-scoring position. The offense was not able to capitalize and the score would remain 1-0.
Both team's pitching and defense would take control of the game as there would be no runs scored in the next six innings.
The Aggies had the bases loaded with zero outs in the bottom of the 6th inning. However, the Ducks would get out of the jam with a popout followed by a double play.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Delaware Valley would have a chance to win the game once again having the bases loaded with zero outs. Angelina Bresnen would hit a sacrifice fly to score Jillian Ulozas to tie up the game 1-1. The Aggies offense weren't able to drive in the winning run, as the game would go into extras.
After a scoreless 8th and 9th inning, the 10th inning would start with both teams starting the inning with a runner on second base. Stevens would take advantage and make it 2-1in the top of the 10th.
With the game on the line, the Aggies would tie up the game in the bottom of the 10th inning with an RBI single from Amelia Funston. After a walk from Madison Karns, Madison Donnelly would win the game for the Aggies with an RBI single scoring pinch runner Jillian Collins. Delaware Valley would win the second game of the doubleheader by a score of 3-2.
The Aggies will be back in action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they host Penn State Schuylkill in a non conference doubleheader.
