DALLAS, PA.- Delaware Valley softball traveled up to Dallas, Pa. to take on the defending MAC champion Cougars of Misericordia on Sunday, March 24th. The Aggies split a home doubleheader last season with the Cougars. A few weeks later, Misericordia would win the MAC Freedom in Doylestown, as Delaware Valley was the home site for the 2023 MAC Freedom Softball Championships.
Delaware Valley enters this match up with a record of 7-5 coming off two losses to Muhlenberg. The Aggies enter today's game 1-1 in conference play after a series split against DeSales. Misericordia is 11-5 on the season and has a conference record of 2-0. Misericordia would go on to win both games of the doubleheader by a score of 1-0 and 4-3.
Pitching in the circle for Delaware Valley is first-year Madison Karns. A single by Angelina Bresnen, followed by a walk from Tori Bockrath gave the Aggies runners on first and second in the top of the second inning, the offense couldn't capitalize, and the score would remain 0-0.
Misericordia would start the scoring in the bottom of the 4th inning with a deep solo home run to right field to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies offense would knock on the door in the top of the 5th inning with base hits from Sierra Ripka and Angelina Bresnen. With runners on second and third, Misericordia would get out of the jam and the score would remain 1-0.
After a scoreless sixth inning, Delaware Valley would enter the top of the 7th inning with their top of the lineup due up to try and tie the game or take the lead. The Aggies offense would go down one-two-three and Misericordia would take game one by a score of 1-0.
Starting in the circle for Delaware Valley in the second game is Madison Karns.
The Cougars would start the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning with back-to-back doubles.
Delaware Valley would tie up the game in the top of the 2nd inning on an RBI double from Jillian Ulozas scoring Kenzie Boyd. Later in the inning, Ulozas would score on an RBI double from Madison Donnelly to take a 2-1 lead.
After one completed inning, Karns would be replaced in relief by Alyssa Scansaroli in the bottom half of the inning.
Sierra Ripka would lead off the top of the third inning with a triple for the Aggies. Delaware Valley would soon after take a 3-1 lead on an RBI sac fly from Angelina Bresnen. Misericordia would cut the deficit in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double to make it 3-2.
After a scoreless 4th and 5th inning, the Delaware Valley offense would have runners on first and second with two outs but were not able to score any runs as the score would remain 3-2.
Misericordia would hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to take a 4-3 lead.
The Aggies would once again enter the top of the 7th inning down one run with their top of the lineup due up to try and tie the game or take the lead. Delaware Valley would go down one-two-three and Misericordia would take the second game 4-3 and sweep the season series.
The Aggies fall to 7-7 on the season and fall to 1-3 in the MAC Freedom Conference. Delaware Valley will be back in action on Thursday, March 28th, when they face off against Franklin & Marshall on the road.
