ALLENTOWN, PA - Delaware Valley Softball dropped both games of a doubleheader on Thursday, March 22nd against the Mules of Muhlenberg College. The Aggies entered this game with a record of 7-3 coming off a split doubleheader series against Penn State Harrisburg. Muhlenberg entered the day winning ten of their first thirteen games of the regular season.
Alyssa Scansaroli started the first game of the doubleheader for Delaware Valley.
Muhlenberg started off the afternoon strong with two runs scored in the bottom of the 1st inning to take a quick 2-0 lead.
After two innings pitched by Scansaroli, Madison Karns would enter the game in relief in the 3rd inning
The Mules would add to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a pair of singles to take a 3-0 lead over Delaware Valley. A few batters later, Muhlenberg would make it a 4-0 ballgame on an RBI fielder choice scoring the runner from home. The Mules offense would continue their strong 3rd inning at the plate with an RBI sac fly to take a 5-0 lead.
After an offensive slump through the first five innings of play, the Aggies offense would break through in the top of the 6th inning when Ripka reached base on a walk, stole second, and eventually scored on an error made by the Muhlenberg defense.
The Aggies were shut down by the Muhlenberg pitching staff as Delaware Valley would drop game one by a score of 5-1.
Pitching in the circle for the second game of the doubleheader was Madison Karns. Muhlenberg would once again get the scoring started in the bottom of the 1st inning on an RBI fielder-choice
Muhlenberg would extend their lead 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI ground out, scoring the runner on third base to home plate.
The Mules defense would make two errors in the top of the 5th inning, allowing the Aggies to cut the deficit 3-1.
Muhlenberg would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of base hits.
Despite a great pitching performance from Madison Karns, who only allowed two earned runs through six innings in the circle, the Aggies would drop game two 3-1. The Aggies struggled to drive in runs as the pitching staff for Muhlenberg only allowed two runs on six total base hits through the two games.
Delaware Valley will be back in action on Saturday, March 23rd against the defending MAC champs the Cougars of Misericordia.
