Doylestown, Pa. - Delaware Valley Softball split a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon with Penn State Harrisburg winning game one 5-4 while falling in game two 3-2.
Sierra Ripka sent one out to left field for a double and was driven in by an Angelina Bresnen single up the middle to put the Aggies up 1-0 in the first inning.
The Nittany Lions tied the game after loading the bases, Lillian Felt scored on a wild pitch in the third.
DelVal loaded the bases in the fifth which included a double from Bresnen. After a pitching change, Madison Donnelly singled through the left side driving in Kenzie Boyd. Then, Yasmine Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice to keep the bases full of Aggies. Isabella Davis who entered into right field earlier, reached on an error scoring Tori Bockrath to put DelVal ahead 4-1.
Penn State loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with no outs, but the reliever Madison Karns and Aggies defense held and didn't allow a run, still tied at four.
In the top of the sixth, the Lions scored a pair of runs off a single up the middle and then with the bases loaded, drove in another to tie the game off a hit-by-pitch.
Tori Bockrath cashed in on an infield single but was out on a fielder choice in the next at-bat. With Donnelly on first, Gonzalez doubled to the center field fence scoring Donnelly to win game one for the Aggies.
Ripka doubled to the left-center fence and then stole third to begin the Aggie's half of the first of game two. Bresnen slapped a single up the middle to score Ripka giving DelVal an early lead.
A Lion walked and then scored off a double to right field by Emily Cutman to knot the game 1-1 in the top of the second. Aggie starting pitcher Karns struck out Lauren Hess to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bockrath singled to left but an errant throw advanced her to third. Donnelly tripled to center field to score Bockrath putting the Aggies on top 2-1.
Olivia Herncane homered down the left line with a man on first to take a 3-2 lead in the seventh with no outs for Penn State.
Davis and Ripka singled to put runners on the corners for the Aggies but couldn't convert falling to Penn State Harrisburg. Their record moves to 7-3 overall.
DelVal next takes the field on Thursday, March 21 at Muhlenberg.
