Delaware Valley Softball Splits Double Header With DeSales

Doylestown, PA- The Delaware Valley University softball team hosted the Bulldogs of DeSales in a doubleheader during the 2024 softball season home opener.

The Aggies came into today's game with a record of 5-1 after winning five games down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Bulldogs entered the doubleheader with a record of 7-4 after going 5-2 during their spring break trip down in Florida. Delaware Valley would split the doubleheader as the Aggies would go on to take game one, while DeSales would take game two.

Starting in the circle for the first game of the doubleheader was first-year Madison Karns. DeSales would start the top of the first inning with an rbi single to take a 1-0 lead early on. The Aggies would respond in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore Angelina Brenson would hit a two-out triple, followed by an RBI single from sophomore Tori Bockrath

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Angelina Brenson and sophomore Kenzie Boyd would hit back-to-back singles to get two runners on with only one out. Tori Bockrath would then hit a deep fly ball into left field that would clear the wall for a home run, giving the Aggies a 4-1 lead.

Madison Karns would shut down the DeSales offense by going seven full innings in the circle only allowing one run on six hits. The Aggie's defense played a pivotal part in the game one win as Delaware Valley only committed one error and made a total of nineteen putouts in the field.

In the second game, sophomore Kenzie Boyd would get the nod for the Aggies in the circle. DeSales would once again start the top of the first inning with an rbi single to take a 1-0 lead early on. The Aggies would respond in the bottom half of the inning as senior Sierra Ripka would hit a two-out triple, followed by an RBI single from sophomore Angelina Brenson. The Bulldogs would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Later on in the DeSales would convert a two-out RBI double to extend their lead to 4-1. In the top of the fourth inning, DeSales would take a 6-1 lead after the Bulldogs knocked three base hits.

Delaware Valley would have a pitching chance in the top of the 6th inning as Madison Karns would come in relief for the Aggies. DeSales would take a 7-1 lead as a leadoff error committed by the Aggies would eventually reach home plate. After a dominant pitching and defense performance by the Bulldogs, the Delaware Valley offense was not able to produce and DeSales would take the second game of the doubleheader.

Both Delaware Valley and DeSales are now 1-1 in MAC Freedom conference play. Delaware Valley will be back in action on Tuesday, March 19th against Penn State Harrisburg.
