Aggies Suffer Loss at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team hung in with Immaculata basket for basket in the first quarter, but a second and third frame slump proved hard to overcome dropping the contest 61-74 Thursday afternoon.
 
Ciana Feliciano and Alexis Wright helped keep the Aggies ahead by a margin of two in the first minute of the game, but quickly the Mighty Mac responded with a 12-0 run to build up a 10-point lead, 14-4. A two-minute scoring drought followed ended by Feliciano with the jumper to start a 5-2 run bringing the deficit back into the single digits, 16-9. The offensive momentum continued with a 13-5 run from DelVal to take a single-point lead, 22-21, with 29 seconds on the clock. The Mighty Mac sunk a layup at the 0:17 mark to shift the lead in its favor to end the frame, 23-22.
 
DelVal regained a small lead twice in the first three minutes of the second quarter. Tied at 26 apiece, Immaculata mounted a 16-8 comeback through the rest of the frame to take an eight-point lead into the half, 42-34. The Mighty Mac entered the second half quickly extended its lead to double digits outscoring the Aggies 20-10 in the third quarter creating a gap as large as 20-points, 62-42, at the 0:26 mark. Jayla Rivera sunk the final bucket of the frame to bring the deficit back down to 18 heading into the final quarter of play.
 
The Mighty Mac extended its advantage to 22 over the first four minutes outscoring the Aggies 6-2. A three-pointer from Ava Irizarry turned the tide to set DelVal off on a 13-4 run through the rest of the game highlighted by an 8-of-12 performance from the charity stripe. The Aggies' last effort cut the deficit down to just 13, 74-61, to end the game.
 
Wright led the Aggies in scoring with a team-high 25 points. Her 10 rebounds also marked the most for DelVal. Feliciano and Keenan led the Aggies in steals with four apiece. Keenan also recorded the only block of the game for DelVal.
 
The Aggies will take some time off before returning to action at home in James Work Gymnasium to host Rowan on Monday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m.
