DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team struggled to get a scoring run going dropping the contest to Montclair State 65-48 on Tuesday night.
Scoring was slow to start for the Aggies with
Haley Keenan and
Alexis Wright combining for just four points through the 4:30 of the quarter. Trailing by 10,
Aubrey Ennis knocked down the jump shot to shift the momentum and start the Aggies on a 10-5 scoring run over the next four minutes to cut the deficit down to five, 19-14. The Red Hawks converted one more bucket before the end of the frame to extend their lead to seven, 21-14.
DelVal started the second quarter strong with a 6-3 run to make it a four-point game but Montclair State answered the call with 14 unanswered points to create an 18-point edge headed into the half, 38-20.
Ciana Felciano led the scoring for the Aggies out of the half with eight of the team's 17 points. The Red Hawks offense continued to dominate putting up 21 points in the frame to create a 23-point lead, cut down to 22 points in the final 30 seconds thanks to a 1-of-2 effort from Ennis at the charity stripe, 59-37.
The Aggies held Montclair State to just six points over the first four minutes tallying five of their own thanks to the scoring efforts of Wright. A nearly two-minute- scoring drought followed broken up with layups from both Wright and Keenan to bring the deficit down to below 20 for the first time in the frame, 65-46. Rivera added a layup for a final score of 65-48.
The Aggies return to action this Thursday, Dec. 19 on the road at Immaculata for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
