DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored on the first drive of the game, and that was all they needed to defeat the Delaware Valley football team in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series.
The Diplomats marched down the field on their opening drive, capped off by a nine-yard touchdown pass to Brady Aselton. Laurence Miller added the extra point to make it 7-0, which would stand as the final score of the afternoon.
Delaware Valley's offense was stalled by a holding penalty, leading to a four-and-out. However,
Nick Arcaroli delivered a career-long 73-yard punt, pinning the Diplomats deep at their own two-yard line.
In the second quarter, with F&M at midfield,
Jacquez Mabin sacked quarterback Ty Tremba for an 11-yard loss. Later in the drive, the Diplomats turned the ball over on downs just before entering the red zone.
The Aggies' next possession got off to a rough start when they fumbled on first down but recovered. After dropping back four yards,
Louie Barrios IV was sacked for another eight-yard loss.
Jack Fallon picked up 14 yards on the next play but came up short of the first down. A sack by
Dante Vernieri ended F&M's next drive.
Both teams struggled to gain momentum in the second half, with two consecutive four-and-outs. On one drive,
Karmi Hicks hauled in a 12-yard reception, and Fallon followed with a five-yard run up the middle to secure a first down. However, two broken-up passes on third and fourth downs ended the Aggies' drive.
In the fourth quarter, after
Alvaro Lora caught a 13-yard pass for a first down, three consecutive penalties on the Aggies forced a punt. With just under two minutes remaining, Barrios was intercepted by Daniel Shakal at the DelVal 35-yard line.
The Aggies regained possession but were quickly sacked twice. Despite this, Barrios completed passes to
Nahsir Morgan for 16 yards and to Lora for 30 yards on a fourth-down conversion. Later in the drive,
Dillon Shamanow made a 20-yard catch to move the Aggies to the F&M seven-yard line. On second-and-goal, after spiking the ball to stop the clock, Barrios was intercepted once again, this time in the end zone by Jacob Hille.
Tremba then took a knee to seal Franklin & Marshall's victory in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series.
