WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by King's College on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs struck early, scoring just three minutes into the match with Maya Parker finding the back of the net past starting goalkeeper
Viola Anderson. Despite attempts from
Gillian Baker,
Jess Williamson, and
Erin Shuey that all went wide, Shuey finally got a shot on target in the 32nd minute, but Ashlyn Crawford made the save. Anderson was tested once more before halftime, successfully making her second save during her 45 minutes on the field.
Nicole Shisler took over as goalkeeper for DelVal at the start of the second half and was immediately challenged, making two saves in the first five minutes. Baker had another shot on goal that was saved, while Williamson struck the post in the 58th minute. After a yellow card was issued to a Monarch player, Anya Chervak scored, extending King's lead to two goals. Shisler made two additional saves, bringing her total to four for the match, as she worked to keep the Aggies competitive. In the closing minutes, Baker fired another shot wide, unable to find the net.
With this loss, the Aggies fell to 2-10-1 (0-2 MAC) and will next compete on Saturday, Oct. 19, against Stevens Institute of Technology.
