MADISON, N.J. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team fell into an early deficit, with
Maisie Neuber breaking the scoring drought eventually draining 22 points and pulling down 14 boards to help lead the Aggies to a 66-52 victory over FDU-Florham. DelVal improves to 14-6 overall and 5-4 in MAC Freedom play.
The Devils put up nine unanswered points before
Maisie Neuber got the Aggies on the board with a layup from
Haley Keenan at the four-minute mark. The duo followed up their performance with 10 combined points in a 12-5 run with Nueber hitting the jumper at 33 seconds to tie the score, 14-14.
Foul trouble put both teams at the line each shooting 2-of-2 to keep the score even, 16-16, to start the second frame.
Alexis Wright gave the Aggies their first lead of the game collecting the offensive board and converting the layup for the two-point advantage, 18-16. The play started the squad on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a Keenan three-pointer, to increase the lead to seven, 23-16. The Devils put together a 7-2 run to come within a single-point of tying when
Kendra Rigo knocked down a three to put the Aggies ahead by four, 28-24.
Aubrey Ennis added four points in the final 49 seconds to push DelVal to a 34-27 advantage at the end of the half.
Keenan came up with an early steal and went in for the driving layup to extend the Aggies' lead to nine. The Devils attempted to chip away at the advantage when Ennis knocked down a three to make it a 10-point game, 39-29. A 9-0 response from FDU-Florham took the lead back down to just one, 39-38, with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter. DelVal held an 11-8 edge through the rest of the frame, led by Neuber with eight points, to lead 50-46 at the end of the third quarter.
The Devils put up the first two points of the frame, but a 9-2 effort from the Aggies followed, thanks to a Ciana Felciano three, putting DelVal back on top by nine, 59-50, with four minutes to play. Neuber followed up with the layup to expand the lead to double-digits, 61-50. Two scoreless minutes went by until the Devils sent Neuber to the line shooting 2-of-2 to build up the advantage to 13. DelVal finished on a small 3-2 run to take the 66-52 victory.
