Women’s Basketball Early Lead Falls Short at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team took an early 12-point lead over Misericordia, but a 30-point fourth-quarter performance from the Cougars proved too much for the Aggies to overcome, dropping the contest 74-71.
 
Alexis Wright started off the scoring with for unanswered points to start the game for the Aggies. Sharp shooting from beyond the arc ensued for Ciana Feliciano and Haley Keenan to put DelVal up by 14 points extended to 16 with a layup from Wright. The Cougars stopped the bleeding, but Keenan converted from deep again to put DelVal up by 17 points. Misericordia ended the first frame on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit down to 12, 21-9.
 
The Cougars worked to close the gap to start the second coming within five points Feliciano hit the layup in the paint to make it a seven-point game. Misericordia continued limiting the Aggies to a lead of four twice more Wright started off a 5-0 run to end the second quarter and give DelVal a nine-point lead, 38-29, heading into the second half.
 
Misericordia came up strong in the third frame shooting 2-of-2 from the long range in the first three minutes to cut the deficit down to four once again, 42-38. Keenan and Maisie Neuber combined for six points to give DelVal back a double-digit lead at the four-minute mark. The Cougars worked to bring the deficit back down to single digits with Aubrey Ennis expanding the lead to 12 points, but the Cougars hit the final basket of the quarter to trail by just 10, 54-44.
 
Misericordia blew open the scoring in the final quarter shooting an impressive 92.86% from the field including 100% from beyond the arc putting up 30 points while holding the Aggies to just 17. DelVal maintained its lead over the Cougars in the frame until the sixth minute with Misericordia taking a lead of a single-point eventually building it up to a margin of six with four points from Wright ending the frame for the Aggies to cut the final deficit to three.
 
DelVal returns to conference action this Wednesday, Jan 31 visiting FDU-Florham for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
