DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team had five players hit double-digit scoring, led by
Aubrey Ennis with 16 points, in the victory over Stevens on Wednesday night. The win improves the Aggies conference record to 4-3 while the Ducks fall to 3-4 in MAC Freedom play.
The Ducks got on the board first, but the Aggies wasted no time tying the score ultimately taking a two-point lead thanks to a 2-of-2 effort from the line by
Maisie Neuber.
Ciana Feliciano followed it up a minute later with a three ball to put DelVal up by five, 11-6, with five minutes to play in the first quarter. A 4-3 run, highlighted by an
Alexis Wright layup off the offensive board, ensued extend the advantage to six, 15-9. Wright went 2-for-2 at the line to put the Aggies ahead 17-9, but a 5-0 run from the Ducks in the final 20 seconds cut the lead to three, 17-14, to end the first quarter.
Scoring slowed for the Aggies with Stevens starting the second quarter with a 7-0 to take the 21-17 lead.
Haley Keenan collected the rebound from the missed jumper and found Feliciano far down court for the layup to end the drought and cut the deficit to two, 21-19. Keenan teamed up with
Aubrey Ennis combining for four points to regain the lead, 25-23. Stevens tied it up, but
Kendra Rigo answered the call with a three-ball to put DelVal back on top, 28-25. Foul trouble for the Aggies put the Ducks at the line three times over the final minute and a half converting 3-of-6 to tie it, 28-28, at the end of the first half.
DelVal started the second half with a 12-6 run spearheaded by a six-point effort from Neuber shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the line to put the Aggies head by six, 40-34, with five minutes to play in the third quarter. The Ducks converted from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to three, but Neuber followed up with the and one to regain the six-point edge, 43-37. Ennis put up five points alongside a three-pointer by Feliciano to push DelVal to its largest lead, 10, at the end of third frame, 51-41.
After a scoreless three minutes to start the final frame, Keenan sunk the three to put the Aggies ahead by a new game-high of 11 and force a Ducks timeout. Stevens regrouped with a 7-2 run to bring DelVal's lead back down to single digits, 56-50, and push the Aggies into a timeout with 4:43 to play. The Aggies held strong putting together a 13-8 run with seven points from Wright to regain a 10-point lead, 69-59, with 43 seconds left on the game clock. Late foul trouble for Stevens placed DelVal at the line extending the lead to 11 to end the game, 72-61.
DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 27 with a road trip to Misericordia. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
