LA PLUME, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team cruised through the first two sets against Keystone College and dropped the third before recovering to make it a 3-1 game with the Aggies coming out on top in the first road trip of the season.
Delaware Valley advances to 2-1 on the season now recording two consecutive victories while Keystone falls to 0-2.
The Aggies came out of the gate strong putting together an early 7-2 run to pull ahead by five, 10-5. The Giants tried to claw back coming no closer than three-points to the lead before back-to-back errors paired with a
Gretta Schneider kill put DelVal ahead by six, 18-12. The Aggies took a 4-1 run out of the set for the 25-16 win.
Set two belonged to the Giants early on taking a 3-1 lead over DelVal. The Aggies tied the score four more times before taking a one-point lead that they would only relinquish once more through the set. Trailing by one, 11-10, DelVal went on a 9-3 run to create a three-point advantage, 16-13. A series of errors paired with two kills from
Kai Logan put the Aggies up by six, 21-15, with Keystone securing just one more point before DelVal finished the set off with four-straight for another 25-16 win.
The third was all Keystone College jumping out to a quick 10-4 lead over DelVal. The Aggies remained in the chase the remainder of the set closing the gap to four, 17-13, with a 6-1 run. DelVal only netted five more points with the Giants cruising to the 25-18 advantage to take the set.
The offensive momentum swung in favor of the Aggies with an
Olivia Deffendall service ace and an
Emma Helverson kill helping to put the squad up 4-1 early on. The Giants remained in chase with a 6-2 run putting them in the lead, 10-9. DelVal was quick to respond with a 6-0 run capped off by back-to-back
Victoria Tucker service aces for the 15-10 lead. Keystone cut it to two, 15-13, but the service aces kept coming for the Aggies with two more for Schneider helping DelVal in its 5-0 offensive run to pull ahead 20-13. The kill from
Zariah Prescott ended it all handing the Aggies the fourth and final set, 25-19.
Schneider and Helverson led the team in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Schneider was joined by Deffendall and Tucker with three service aces apiece.
Grace Wilson led the defensive efforts with 17 digs in the game.
Delaware Valley returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 9 for the Wilkes University Tri-Match facing the host, Wilkes, at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with Penn State Altoona.
